Arab Press Network
The Arab Press Network (APN) (french: Place Réseau right la Presse Arabe) is a network of organisations that support and promote the development of the press in the Arab world. It is run by the World Association of Newspapers, with its headquarters in Paris, and is supported by the Danish newspaper group JP/Politiken. According to APN, their mission is to facilitate associations between Arab journalists and editors in order to promote a free press. On a commercial level, the network supports newspapers to grow and expand through practical advice. The APN website contains news about the Arab world and on developments therein relating to freedom of the press. Arab World
The Arab world ( ar, اَلْعَالَمُ الْعَرَبِيُّ '), formally the Arab homeland ( '), also known as the Arab nation ( '), the Arabsphere, or the Arab states, refers to a vast group of countries, mainly located in Western Asia and Northern Africa, that linguistically or culturally share an Arab identity. A majority of people in these countries are either ethnically Arab or are Arabized, speaking the Arabic language, which is used as the '' lingua franca'' throughout the Arab world. As-Safir
''As-Safir'' ( ar, السفير, lit=The Ambassador), was a leading Arabic-language daily newspaper in Lebanon. The headquarters of the daily was in Beirut. It was in circulation from March 1974 until December 2016. The last issue of the paper was published on 31 December 2016. The online version was also closed on the same date. History and profile ''As-Safir'' was first published by Talal Salman on 26 March 1974 as an Arabic political daily. Talal Salman also served as chief editor of the paper. One of the early contributors was Palestinian cartoonist Naji Al Ali. In 2005, the daily's chief editor was Joseph Samaha. Another contributor was Samir Frangieh. ''Tishreen'' ( ar, تشرين, Tishrīn, October) is one of the state-owned Arabic daily newspapers published in Syria. The daily is based in Damascus and has been in circulation since 1975. ''Tishreen'' was named after the Arab-Israeli war in October 1973. History and profile ''Tishreen'' was first published in October 1975. It is a state-owned publication in addition to two other state-owned dailies, namely '' Al Baath'' and '' Al Thawra'', which were launched earlier.
