An apostolic prefect or prefect apostolic is a priest who heads what is known as an apostolic prefecture, a 'pre-diocesan' missionary jurisdiction where the Catholic Church is not yet sufficiently developed to have it made a diocese. Although it usually has an (embryonal) see, it is often not called after such city but rather after a natural or administrative (in many cases colonial) geographical area. If a prefecture grows and flourishes, it may be elevated to an apostolic vicariate, headed by a titular bishop, in the hope that with time the region will generate enough Catholics and stability for its Catholic institutions, to warrant being established as a diocese. Peter Lin Jiashan ( zh, 林家善, 2 September 1934 – 14 April 2023) was the third China-recognized Catholic Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Fuzhou, China. Early life Lin was born on 2 September 1934. Priesthood Lin was ordained a priest on 11 May 1981. Episcopate Peter was consecrated a bishop on 13 July 1997 by Archbishop John Yang Shudao and was appointed coadjutor bishop of Archdiocese of Fuzhou. On 28 August 2010 he succeeded as Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Fuzhou but never appointed or recognized by the government. Jian'ou
Jian'ou is a county-level city in Nanping in northern Fujian province, China. Under the name Jianning (Kienning), it was formerly the seat of its own prefecture and was the namesake of its province. Jian'ou is within a major bamboo and rice-growing area on Jianxi Brook, about south from Jianyang. The Jian'ou dialect, a dialect of Northern Min, is spoken in Jian'ou. History The city was established in 196 under the name Jian'an – the era name of the reigning Emperor Xian of Han. Along with Fuzhou, they were the earliest-established Chinese territories in the area and thus their province bears their conjoined names: Fu & Jian. Nanping
Nanping (), historically known as Yanping (), is a third-tier prefecture-level city in northwestern Fujian Province, People's Republic of China. It borders Ningde to the east, Sanming to the south, and the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi to the north and west respectively. Part of the famous Bú-î Mountains range is located in this prefecture. Its population was 2,680,645 as of the 2020 census whom 795,448 lived in the built-up (or metro) area made up of Yanping and Jianyang urban districts. Jianyang is a district in the prefecture-level city of Nanping, in the northern part of Fujian province, People's Republic of China. Its population was 2,910,000 in 2013. Jianyang has rich natural resources: bamboo, tea and water power.
