Amédée Gaboury
Amédée Gaboury (March 26, 1838 – June 11, 1912) was a physician and political figure in Quebec. He represented Laval in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1883 to 1884 as a Liberal. He was born in Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Lower Canada, the son of Jean-Baptiste Gaboury and Rosalie Ayet dit Malo. He was educated at the Collège de Saint-Hyacinthe and the Victoria School of Medicine at Montreal. He qualified as a doctor in 1862 and set up practice at Saint-Martin. Martin was married twice: to Virginie Lavoie in 1873 and later to Rosalie Picard. Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, ''speaker''. When the Assembly was renamed so too was the title of its presiding officer, becoming known as the President. Today, Quebec has a unicameral legislature, whose single house is the National Assembly. Laval (provincial Electoral District)
Laval was a former provincial electoral district in the province of Quebec, Canada. It was located in the Laval region north of Montreal, but for some of its history it also included parts of Montreal itself. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 1976. It disappeared in the 1981 election and its successor electoral districts were Fabre and Chomedey. Pierre-Évariste Leblanc
Sir Pierre-Évariste Leblanc, (August 10, 1853 – October 18, 1918) was born in Saint-Martin (today part of Laval, Quebec). He was a Quebec Conservative Party leader but never premier. First elected to the Legislative Assembly in a by-election in 1882 in the riding of Laval, he served as leader of the Opposition from 1905 to 1908, when he lost the 1908 election and his own seat. Served as the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec from February 12, 1915, until his death in Spencer Wood, Sillery, in 1918. Leblanc was buried at cimetière Notre-Dame-des-Neiges in Montreal. The Quebec Liberal Party (QLP; french: Parti libéral du Québec, PLQ) is a provincial political party in Quebec. It has been independent of the federal Liberal Party of Canada since 1955. Lower Canada
The Province of Lower Canada (french: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). It covered the southern portion of the current Province of Quebec and the Labrador region of the current Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (until the Labrador region was transferred to Newfoundland in 1809). Laval (; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. It is in the southwest of the province, north of Montreal.
