Amy-Eloise Markovc
Amy-Eloise Markovc OLY (née Neale; born 5 August 1995) is a British middle- and long-distance runner. She won the gold medal in the 3000 metres at the 2021 European Indoor Championships. Markovc is a two-time British national champion. Career Born in Stockport, England, she later moved to the United States and took up track and field. At the age of 14 she won the 2000 metres steeplechase at the 2010 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships. While studying at Glacier Peak High School, Markovc was the Washington state Gatorade Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year for three years running (2011, 2012, 2013). Markovc had top eight finishes each year at the Nike Cross Nationals from 2010 to 2012, with her highest finish being 3rd in 2010. Her international debut for Great Britain followed at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics, where she placed eleventh in the steeplechase final. World Athletics Cross Country Championships is the most important competition in international cross country running. Formerly held annually and organised by World Athletics (formerly the IAAF), it was inaugurated in 1973, when it replaced the International Cross Country Championships. It was an annual competition until 2011, when World Athletics changed it to a biennial event. 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships
The 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships was held from 4 to 7 March 2021 at the Arena Toruń in Toruń, Poland. This was the second time this event was held in Poland after the 1975 edition in Katowice. The four-day competition featured 13 men's and 13 women's athletics events. Altogether 659 athletes from 46 countries participated in the event which is a record in the competition's history. The Netherlands topped the medal table for the first time with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Katarzynka, a gingerbread, was the mascot. The European Athletics Indoor Championships is a biennial indoor track and field competition for European athletes that is organised by the European Athletic Association. It was held for the first time in 1970, replacing the European Indoor Games, its predecessor event first held in 1966.
