Amway
Amway (short for "American Way") is an American multi-level marketing (MLM) company that sells health, beauty, and home care products. The company was founded in 1959 by Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos and is based in Ada, Michigan. Amway and its sister companies under Alticor reported sales of $8.4 billion in 2019. It conducts business through a number of affiliated companies in more than a hundred countries and territories. Amway has been investigated in various countries and by institutions such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for alleged pyramid scheme practices. Alticor
Alticor is a privately owned American corporation which is run by the DeVos family and the Van Andel family. It was established in 1999 to serve as the parent company for a handful of business ventures, most notably the multi-level marketing company Amway and Amway Global, and a manufacturing and distribution company, Access Business Group. Jay Van Andel
Jay Van Andel (June 3, 1924 – December 7, 2004) was an American billionaire businessman, best known as co-founder of the Amway Corporation, along with Richard DeVos. He also served as chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 1979 to 1980 Early life Jay Van Andel was born on June 3, 1924 to James and Petronilla (Van der Woude) Van Andel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Doug DeVos
Doug DeVos (born October 6, 1964) is an American businessman and sailor. He is co-chairman (with Steve Van Andel) of Amway, which was co-founded by their fathers. DeVos is the chairman of the executive committee of the National Constitutional Center. Early life DeVos is the youngest son of Helen June (Van Wesep) and Amway co-founder Rich DeVos, who, with Steve Van Andel's father Jay Van Andel, started Amway in Ada, Michigan, in 1959. DeVos earned a degree from Purdue University, and played quarterback there. DeVos started at Amway early in his working career, and took on various responsibilities and roles before being named president in 2002. Multi-level marketing (MLM), also called network marketing or pyramid selling, is a controversial marketing strategy for the sale of products or services in which the revenue of the MLM company is derived from a non-salaried workforce selling the company's products or services, while the earnings of the participants are derived from a pyramid-shaped or binary compensation commission system. Artistry (cosmetics)
Artistry is a brand of skin care and cosmetic products, owned by Amway headquartered in Ada, Michigan, and sold through Amway Business Owners in more than 50 countries and territories worldwide. Background Edith Rehnborg, wife of Nutrilite founder Carl Rehnborg, founded Edith Rehnborg Cosmetics in 1968, which later became Artistry. Nutrilite is a brand of mineral, vitamin, and dietary supplements developed in 1934 by Carl F. Rehnborg. Nutrilite products are currently manufactured by Access Business Group, a subsidiary of Alticor whose products are sold via Amway worldwide.
