Amanda Rylander
Amanda Fredrika Rylander (14 October 1832, Jäder, Södermanland – 15 October 1920, Kvillinge, Östergötland) was a Swedish stage actress. She was a noted actress in Sweden in the late 19th-century. She was born to the inspector Johan Rylander and the sister of the actresses Ottilia Littmarck and Clara Björlin. She was active at the Anders Selinder theater company in 1857–59, the Pierre Deland theater in 1859–62, before she was employed at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki in Finland in 1863. She was finally to be one of the most well known actors in Gothenburg, where she was active in 1870–90. Rylander was popular within comedies. Her most noted roles were Fadette in ''Syrsan'' and Opportune in ''Fregattkaptenen''. Her way of acting was described as warm and jolly. Södermanland
Södermanland ( or ), locally Sörmland, sometimes referred to under its Latin form ''Sudermannia'' or ''Sudermania'', is a historical province or ''landskap'' on the south eastern coast of Sweden. It borders Östergötland, Närke, Västmanland and Uppland. It is also bounded by lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. Södermanland means "(The) Land of the Southern Men", where the "southern men" (''södermännen'') were the people living south of Uppland. Östergötland
Östergötland (; English exonym: East Gothland) is one of the traditional provinces of Sweden (''landskap'' in Swedish) in the south of Sweden. It borders Småland, Västergötland, Närke, Södermanland and the Baltic Sea. In older English literature, the Latinized version ''Ostrogothia'' is also used. Ottilia Littmarck
Ottilia Sofia Littmarck (22 June 1834– 14 July 1929) was a Swedish actress and theatre director. She was a noted actress in Sweden in the late 19th century. Biography She was born in the parish of Jäder in Södermanland to inspector Johan Rylander and was the sister of the actresses Amanda Rylander (1832–1920) and Clara Björlin (1850-1905). She was active in the travelling theatres of Pierre Deland, director of the Deland Theater Company in 1833–1861 with her sister Amanda in 1857–68. Between 1873 and '74, she was the director of ''Södra teatern'' in Stockholm. In 1875–79, she was active at the Swedish Theatre (Stockholm) before she established and managed her own theater company in 1880–83. Anders Selinder
Anders Selinder (4 November 1806, Stockholm – 6 November 1874, Stockholm), was a Swedish ballet dancer, choreographer and director. He was Ballet master of the Royal Swedish Ballet in 1833–1856. Life Anders Selinder was the son of the jeweler A. Selinder in Stockholm. Selinder premier dancer at the Royal ballet in the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm in 1829-46. In 1833, he was appointed ballet master at the age of twenty seven. He succeeded Per Erik Wallqvist, and worked closely to Sophie Daguin, who had previously shared the position of ballet master with Wallqvist and was principal of the Opera's ballet school. Together, Selinder and Daguin are considered to have upheld a high standard of the ballet. Anders Selinder has been referred to as one of the most noted ballet masters of the royal ballet. Pierre Deland
Pierre Joseph Deland (13 December 1805 – 13 November 1862) was a Swedish stage actor and theatre director. He was the director of the Deland Theater Company in 1833-1861, a travelling theater famous in both Sweden and Finland, and as such an influential and well known figure of the stage life of both countries in the mid 19th-century. He was the founder of the ''Dramatiska och musikaliska artisternas pensionsförening'' ('Retirement Fund for Dramatic and Musical Artists') in 1857. Life Pierre Deland was born to Jean Pierre Deland, violinist of the ''Hovkapellet'', and Eva Magdalena Eklund. His paternal grandfather Louis Antoine Deland was from Luxembourg and hairdresser to the queen, Sophia Magdalena of Denmark. Swedish Theatre
The Swedish Theatre ( sv, Svenska Teatern) is a Swedish-language theatre in Helsinki, Finland, and is located at the Erottaja ( sv, Skillnaden) square, at the end of Esplanadi ( sv, Esplanaden). It was the first national stage of Finland. History The first theatre in Helsinki, '' Engels Teater'', was completed in 1827. The wooden building designed by architect Carl Ludvig Engel was located in the corner of Mikaelsgatan and Esplanaden. At the time the theatre was opened it had no permanent actors and many of the actors who performed in the theatre during that time were en route to Saint Petersburg. The theatre designed by Engel soon became too small as the interest in theatre grew rapidly among the citizens of Helsinki. The new theatre building was opened on 28 November 1860.
