Val-d'Or
Val-d'Or (, , ; "Golden Valley" or "Valley of Gold") is a city in Quebec, Canada with a population of 32,752 inhabitants according to the Canada 2021 Census. The city is located in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region near La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve. History Gold was discovered in the area in 1923. The name of the town is French for "Valley of Gold." While gold is still mined in the area today, base metals, such as copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and lead (Pb) have become increasingly important resources. The ore is usually found in volcanic rocks that were deposited on the sea floor over 2.7 billion years ago. They are referred to as volcanic-hosted (or volcanogenic) massive sulphide deposits ( VMS). The city is known for its vast parks, cycle tracks, and forests. 2012 Quebec General Election
The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canadian province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. The Parti Québécois were elected to a minority government, with Pauline Marois becoming the first woman to be Premier of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party took second place, with Premier Jean Charest losing his seat. The newly formed party Coalition Avenir Québec led by François Legault took third place, while Québec solidaire took 2 seats out of the 125. It was the first time since 2007 (and only the third time in Quebec history) that a minority government would be formed, as no party won an absolute majority of the seats. Norman MacMillan (politician)
Normand MacMillan (born December 14, 1947, in Buckingham, Quebec) is a Quebec politician, businessman and insurance agent. He was the MNA for the riding of Papineau in the Outaouais region between 1989 and 2012, representing the Quebec Liberal Party. He was the government's Chief Whip from 2005 to 2012, and President of the Caucus Chair from 2003 to 2005. Career Prior to his political career, MacMillan worked as an insurance agent between 1969 and 1972. He was also the owner of a hotel from 1972 to 1983 and the co-owner of Nord MacMillan Inc. in 2003 which operates the same hotel business.
