Albanian General Staff
The General Staff of the Armed Forces (GS; sq, Shtabi i Përgjithshëm i Forcave të Armatosura), is the highest military structure of the Albanian Armed Forces. It was established as a joint strategic staff and functions according to NATO standards. The incumbent Chief of the General Staff is Major General Bajram Begaj. History The position was formed on 4 May 1913 under the auspices of the Provisional Government of Albania. In January 1920, after the establishment of the government in the Lushnjë Congress, the staff structure was restored and was headed by Lieutenant Colonel Ali Shefqet Shkupi. On 7 April 1939, as a result of the Italian invasion of Albania, the Albanian Armed Forces General Staff ceased to exist. In July 1943, the Partisan General Staff of the Albanian National Liberation Army was formed in Elbasan County. Tirana
Tirana ( , ; aln, Tirona) is the capital and largest city of Albania. Ali Shefqet Shkupi
Lieutenant Colonel Ali Shefqet Shkupi, also known as Ali Shefqet Bey, was the first Chief of Supreme Staff of the Albanian Army bearing the functions of the Supreme Commander in the Albanian Government of Ismail Qemal Vlora. Family Ali Shefqeti was the son of Hysen Shefqeti, and Albanian originating from İpek who had settled in Uskub. His mother was a local Albanian woman from a rich family. Ali was born in Uskub in September 1883. His brother was Naxhi Shkupi, another Albanian nationalist who invested most of his wealth into the Albanian new state. The Party of Labour of Albania ( sq, Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë, PPSh), sometimes referred to as the Albanian Workers' Party (AWP), was the ruling and sole legal party of Albania during the communist period (1945–1991). Albanian People's Army
The Albanian People's Army ( sq, Ushtria Popullore Shqiptare, UPSh) was the national army of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania from 1946 to 1990. Like all other Communist states, the UPSh was subjected to the rule of the Party of Labour of Albania. It was dissolved in 1990 and retained its current form through the Albanian Armed Forces. Albanian National Liberation Army
The National Liberation Movement ( sq, Lëvizja Nacional-Çlirimtare; or ''Lëvizja Antifashiste Nacional-Çlirimtare'' (LANÇ)), also translated as National Liberation Front, was an Albanian communist resistance organization that fought in World War II. It was created on 16 September 1942, in a conference held in Pezë, a village near Tirana, and was led by Enver Hoxha. The Italian invasion of Albania (April 7–12, 1939) was a brief military campaign which was launched by the Kingdom of Italy against the Albanian Kingdom in 1939. Bajram Begaj
Bajram Begaj (born 20 March 1967) is an Albanian retired military officer and politician, who is currently serving as the 9th President of Albania since 24 July 2022. Begaj, who has had a long career in the Albanian army, served as the 26th Chief of General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces from July 2020 to June 2022.
