Afroditi Frida
Afroditi Frida is a Greek singer, best known for representing Greece in the ESC 1988. Biography Frida was born and raised in Athens in 1964. She studied music for eight years in the National Conservatory of Athens and started her career in 1984. That year she was among the 10 finalists who competed for representing Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song, "Donald Duck", did not win. Frida returned to the Greek selection for the ESC in 1988. She sang, Clown, a modern pop song accompanied by three dancers. The Greek jury stated that none of the songs were good enough to represent the country in the contest, but eventually they voted for the Clown. The Greek delegation travelled to Dublin without high hopes. Frida seemed nervous, the dancers seemed out of rhythm and the clown who appeared on stage made this Greek entry one of the most hilarious entries ever. To Diko Sou Asteri
Greece and Ellinikí Radiofonía Tileórasi (ERT) chose to host a national selection with the winner being chosen an "expert" jury. Mariana Efstratiou was chosen with "To diko sou asteri" and placed 9th at Eurovision. Before Eurovision National final The national final took place on 31 March 1989 at the ERT TV Studios in Athens and was hosted by Dafni Bokota. The songs were presented as video clips and the winning song was chosen by a panel of "experts". It was later revealed that Mando was supposed to win the national selection; she was second, only one point behind Marianna. Mando took action against the Greek television station ERT because one of the jury members didn't vote. She won the ruling, but since the process was too late to reverse the decision, Marianna went to Eurovision. Mariana Efstratiou
Maria-Anastasia (Mariana) Efstratiou ( el, Μαριάνα Ευστρατίου) (born 17 April 1955 in Athens) is a Greek singer, connected on several occasions with the Eurovision Song Contest. In 1987 she appeared as a backing singer for the duo Bang. Efstratiou won the Greek national song contest in 1989, overcoming Greek superstar Anna Vissi, and represented Greece in Lausanne with '' To Diko Sou Asteri''. The song was placed ninth. In 1996, ERT selected her to represent Greece again, this time with the song '' Emis forame to himona anixiatika'', but the song could only manage 14th place in Oslo. Efstratiou sang three songs in the semi-finals of the Greek national contest in 1998, but none of them qualified for the final. She has worked with Mimis Plessas and she also appeared on stage on several occasions. She has published two records and a promo CD single. The Eurovision Song Contest 1988 was the 33rd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Dublin, Ireland, following Johnny Logan's win at the with the song " Hold Me Now". Bang (Greek Band)
Bang was a Greek male vocal duo, consisting of Paul Stevens (vocals, guitar) (according to ''Billboard'' "Top Pop Singles" and several other unofficial sources, his real name is Thanos Calliris) and Billy Adams (Vassilis Dertilis) (keyboards). They had chart success with the single "You're the One", released on the RCA label. It entered the UK Singles Chart on 6 May 1989, reaching #74. It was in the chart for two weeks. The B-side of the 7" version was "Don't Burn Down the Bridge", with the 12" having an additional instrumental version.
