African Women's Sevens Championship
The Africa Women's Sevens is the continental championship for women's international rugby sevens in Africa. The tournament sanctioned and sponsored by Rugby Africa (previously CAR) which is the rugby union governing body for the continent. The first official regional 7s championship for international women's teams from Africa was held in Tunisia in 2004, although this only included teams from Northern Africa. The first World Cup Sevens qualifier for women's teams from Africa was held in Uganda in 2008. Since then, African championships have periodically served as pre-qualifying competitions for the Rugby 7s World Cup, or other sevens tournaments such as at the Summer Olympics. Kempton Park is a city in the East Rand region of Gauteng province, South Africa. It is part of the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Kyadondo Rugby Club
Kyadondo Rugby Club is a rugby union ground in Kampala, Uganda. It was built in 2000. Facilities include main ground, a training pitch and a club house. The ground is home to several club teams, among them Heathens RFC, a leading rugby club in Uganda. It has also hosted home games of the Uganda national rugby union team, but the Uganda Rugby Union is considering hosting games at the National Stadium or Nakivubo Stadium due to limited capacity of Kyadondo. Jemmal ( ar, جمال) is a city in the Monastir Governorate of Tunisia, located about south of Monastir. As of 2014 it had a population of 50,275. The city is well known for its historic Grand Mosque and is at the centre of a region of olive groves. A festival takes place each year during the olive harvest season in November or December. 2022 Africa Women's Sevens
The 2022 Africa Women's Sevens are an annual African rugby sevens tournament that took place at the Stade Municipal de Jemmal in Jemmal on 29 and 30 April 2022; they were held in Tunisia for the fourth time. Nine teams participated in the tournament, including 2019 champions South Africa (who successfully defended their title and qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham). Since South Africa already qualify for the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens as hosts, Madagascar secured the World Cup ticket to Cape Town by finishing as runners-up. Format Teams are divided into three pools, in which they each play two matches. Based on their pool positions and points differences, the lowest-ranked team overall is eliminated and the remaining teams seeded in the knockout-stage Cup quarter-finals. COVID-19 Pandemic In Africa
The COVID-19 pandemicpandemic was confirmed to have spread to Africa on 14 February 2020, with the first confirmed case announced in Egypt. The first confirmed case in sub-Saharan Africa was announced in Nigeria at the end of February 2020. Within three months, the virus had spread throughout the continent, as Lesotho, the last African sovereign state to have remained free of the virus, reported a case on 13 May 2020. By 26 May, it appeared that most African countries were experiencing community transmission, although testing capacity was limited. Most of the identified imported cases arrived from Europe and the United States rather than from China where the virus originated. In early June 2021, Africa faced a third wave of COVID infections with cases rising in 14 countries. 2019 Africa Women's Sevens
The 2019 Africa Women's Sevens was a women's rugby sevens tournament held in Monastir, Tunisia on 12–13 October 2019. The tournament acted as qualification for the 2020 Hong Kong Women's Sevens, which in turns serves as a qualification tournament for the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series. The tournament also acted as qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics. South Africa won the tournament and qualified for the Hong Kong Sevens along with Kenya. The 2018 Africa Women's Sevens was a women's rugby sevens tournament held in Gaborone, Botswana on 26–27 May 2018. Kenya as the highest ranked team qualified for the 2018 Dubai Women's Sevens and 2019 Hong Kong Women's Sevens. Uganda also qualified for 2019 Hong Kong Women's Sevens.
