AKN Eisenbahn
AKN Eisenbahn GmbH operates railway lines, commuter trains and freight trains in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Its headquarters is in Kaltenkirchen. It is a member of the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV), which organises public transport in and around Hamburg. AKN is an abbreviation for Altona - Kaltenkirchen - Neumünster, its first railway line. Kaltenkirchen
(nicknamed ''Kaki''; nds, Koldenkarken or ''Kolenkarken'') is a town located 35 km north of Hamburg in Germany. It is part of the Segeberg district, in Schleswig-Holstein. It has about 20,000 inhabitants. History First mentioned in the 14th century, it flourished during the Industrial Revolution to accommodate the large number of workers in Hamburg. During World War II, a temporary airfield protected the northern towns from bombing raids, but during the raids on Hamburg the airfield was destroyed and never rebuilt. Only open fields now remain where it was. A concentration camp was established here from August 1944 to April 1945 as a subcamp to the Neuengamme concentration camp. About 700 prisoners died here. There was talk of moving the Hamburg Airport to Kaltenkirchen in the 1970s, but this did not materialise. Henstedt-Ulzburg
Henstedt-Ulzburg is a municipality in the district of Segeberg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Geography The municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg is situated approximately 30 km north of Hamburg and 13 km north of Norderstedt. Schnelsen
Schnelsen () is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany, in the borough of Eimsbüttel. In 2020 it had a population of over 30,100 people and borders the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Ulzburg Süd Station
Ulzburg Süd station is a hub on the AKN Eisenbahn network in the municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is where AKN’s trunk line (the Hamburg-Altona–Neumünster railway) and the Alster Northern Railway, which are now traversed by AKN lines A1 and A2, meet. In addition, trains on line A3 (the Elmshorn-Barmstedt-Oldesloe railway) begin and end in Ulzburg Süd. The station is located on the western edge of Ulzburg Süd (south), a suburb of Henstedt-Ulzburg. History The station was established in 1953 under the name of ''Beckershof'' on the AKN trunk line to connect with the newly built Alster Northern Railway, but it was soon renamed Ulzburg Süd. Neumünster Station
Neumünster station is the main railway station of the town of Neumünster in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is at the junction of lines to Flensburg, Heide, Hamburg-Altona, Kiel, Bad Oldesloe, Kaltenkirchen and until 1985 Ascheberg. It is currently operated by Deutsche Bahn, which classifies it as a category 2 station. Boostedt is a municipality in the district of Segeberg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated approximately 50 km north of Hamburg, and 7 km south of Neumünster. Hamburg S-Bahn
The Hamburg S-Bahn is a suburban commuter railway network in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Together, the S-Bahn, the Hamburg U-Bahn, the AKN railway and the regional railway form the backbone of railway public transport in the city and the surrounding area. Hamburg U-Bahn
The Hamburg U-Bahn is a rapid transit system serving the cities of Hamburg, Norderstedt and Ahrensburg in Germany. Hamburg-Altona–Neumünster Railway
The Hamburg-Altona–Neumünster railway is the original line of the AKN Eisenbahn (railway) in the German states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Today, passenger services on the 64.5 km-long Hamburg Eidelstedt–Neumünster section are operated by AKN. The stations on the current line of A1 between Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and Eidelstedt in the Hamburg urban area were not part of the original route and are served only occasionally by the AKN.
