Ulzburg Süd Station
Ulzburg Süd station is a hub on the AKN Eisenbahn network in the municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is where AKN’s trunk line (the Hamburg-Altona–Neumünster railway) and the Alster Northern Railway, which are now traversed by AKN lines A1 and A2, meet. In addition, trains on line A3 (the Elmshorn-Barmstedt-Oldesloe railway) begin and end in Ulzburg Süd. The station is located on the western edge of Ulzburg Süd (south), a suburb of Henstedt-Ulzburg. History The station was established in 1953 under the name of ''Beckershof'' on the AKN trunk line to connect with the newly built Alster Northern Railway, but it was soon renamed Ulzburg Süd. The station was modernised in the mid-1990s. Since then the trains of the Alster Northern Railway have run mainly on the middle track 2 between the two tracks of the AKN trunk line. The Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV) ( en, "Hamburg Transport Association") is a transport association coordinating public transport in and around Hamburg, Germany. Its main objectives are to provide a unified fare system, requiring only a single ticket for journeys with transfers between different operating companies, and to facilitate and speed up travel by harmonising the individual companies' schedules. At its inception in 1965, the HVV was the first organisation of its kind worldwide. Henstedt-Ulzburg is a municipality in the district of Segeberg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Geography The municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg is situated approximately 30 km north of Hamburg and 13 km north of Norderstedt. Alster Northern Railway
The Alster Northern Railway (german: Alsternordbahn) or ANB was a non-electrified, single-tracked branch line in northern Germany. It linked the stations of Ochsenzoll in Hamburg-Langenhorn with Ulzburg Süd in the district of Segeberg in Schleswig-Holstein. The northern part of the route to Norderstedt Mitte is used today by AKN Railway on behalf to VGN Norderstedt (HVV Line A 2) and is mostly double-tracked. Since 1996 the southern section is part of the Hamburg U-Bahn network ( Line U 1) on behalf to VGN. It is doubled throughout and electrified at 750 V DC via a third rail. AKN Eisenbahn GmbH operates railway lines, commuter trains and freight trains in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Its headquarters is in Kaltenkirchen. Hamburg-Altona–Neumünster Railway
The Hamburg-Altona–Neumünster railway is the original line of the AKN Eisenbahn (railway) in the German states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Kaltenkirchen
(nicknamed ''Kaki''; nds, Koldenkarken or ''Kolenkarken'') is a town located 35 km north of Hamburg in Germany. It is part of the Segeberg district, in Schleswig-Holstein. It has about 20,000 inhabitants. History First mentioned in the 14th century, it flourished during the Industrial Revolution to accommodate the large number of workers in Hamburg. During World War II, a temporary airfield protected the northern towns from bombing raids, but during the raids on Hamburg the airfield was destroyed and never rebuilt. Only open fields now remain where it was. A concentration camp was established here from August 1944 to April 1945 as a subcamp to the Neuengamme concentration camp. About 700 prisoners died here.
