Avon High School (Avon, Ohio)
Avon High School is a public high school for grades 9–12 located in Avon, Ohio, United States. Athletic teams are known as the Eagles and play in the Southwestern Conference as of the 2018–2019 school year. The current Avon High School opened in 1998, located on 37 acres of land on Detroit Road. The school is two stories tall and was built for 800 students with room to expand it for 1,600 students. Sports Avon is currently a member of the Southwestern Conference, as of 2015. The current head football coach is Mike Elder, who took over the program in 2007. Their football team has been in the state tournament in 1996, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Avon, Ohio
Avon ( ) is a city in northeastern Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 24,847 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. History In the 17th century, what is now Avon, Avon Lake, Bay Village, and Westlake were all once one territory. This territory was inhabited by various Native American tribes, such as the Wyandots, Ottawas, and Eries, who lived in wigwams or simple-stone dwellings. They settled, traded, fought, and later forcibly moved elsewhere. Township Number 7 in Range 16 of the Western Reserve received its first permanent American settlers during 1814 from Montgomery County, New York, led by Wilbur Cahoon. The Southwestern Conference is a high school athletic league whose members are located in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties, mainly southwest of the city of Cleveland. Avon Lake High School (ALHS) is a public high school located in Avon Lake, Ohio, west of Cleveland. It serves grades 9–12. It is part of the Avon Lake City School District. Academics ALHS achieved "excellent" ratings on the Ohio State Report Card every year from 2003 to 2012.
