Avon Lake High School
Avon Lake High School (ALHS) is a public high school located in Avon Lake, Ohio, west of Cleveland. It serves grades 9–12. It is part of the Avon Lake City School District. Academics ALHS achieved "excellent" ratings on the Ohio State Report Card every year from 2003 to 2012. Reflecting the new statewide scoring, ALHS has consistently earned "A" grades for achievement (performance index and indicators met) and graduation rate since 2013. As of 2016, ALHS is ranked 261st by ''Newsweek Magazine'' and as of 2018, 668th by ''U.S. News & World Report''. Avon Lake High School was ranked 170th in the nation by Newsweek Magazine in 2015. Avon Lake, Ohio
Avon Lake is a city in northeastern Lorain County, Ohio, United States, located on the southern shore of Lake Erie about 17 miles west of Cleveland. The population was 25,206 at the 2020 Census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. History Avon Lake was first settled in the 17th century and was, along with Avon, Bay Village, and Westlake, inhabited by the Erie. After the war with the Iroquois in 1656 ended the peoples were largely dispersed or integrated into Iroquois society. The area was then sparsely populated until the Lenape and Wyandot migrated into the area in 1700. The first European settlement in the area was founded in 1786 by Moravian missionaries. The Northwest Indian war resulted in the Indians in the area giving up all land East of Cuyahoga river in the Treaty of Greenville. ''Funky Winkerbean'' is an American comic strip by Tom Batiuk. Distributed by North America Syndicate, a division of King Features Syndicate, it appears in more than 400 newspapers worldwide. While Batiuk was a 23-year-old middle school art teacher in Elyria, Ohio, he began drawing cartoons while supervising study hall. In 1970, his characters first appeared as a weekly panel, ''Rapping Around'', on the teenage page of the ''Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting Co., Elyria Chronicle Telegram''. In 1972, Batiuk reworked some of the characters into a daily strip, which he sold to Publishers-Hall Syndicate. Since its inception on March 27, 1972, the strip has gone through several format changes. Brian Jeffrey Mihalik (born August 21, 1992) is a former American football offensive tackle. He played college football at Boston College and was drafted in the seventh round (237th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. Matt Lundy
Matt Lundy (born January 4, 1960) is a former Democratic Party member of the Ohio House of Representatives, who represented the 55th District from 2007 to 2014. Since 2015, he has served as a member of the Lorain County Board of County Commissioners. Jeremy Richard Griffiths (born March 22, 1978) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher for the New York Mets and Houston Astros. Career Griffiths spent three years as a pitcher for the University of Toledo baseball team. In 1998, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League. ''Phenomenon'' is an American television competition program judged by mystifier Uri Geller and illusionist Criss Angel and hosted by Tim Vincent which debuted live on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 on NBC. The program featured ten contestants competing to become the next great mentalist, to be determined by viewers voting by phone and online. The contestants performed their effects on celebrity guests each week. The winner of ''Phenomenon'' would win $250,000. On October 30, 2007, during an interview with Larry King about the show, Angel said "No one has the ability, that I'm aware of, to do anything supernatural, psychic, talk to the dead. Angela Funovits (born July 29, 1987) is an American magician, mentalist, and dermatologist. She has made television appearances in the United States and elsewhere. Biography Funovits was born and raised in Avon Lake, Ohio.
