Australian Suzuki Swift Series
The Australian Suzuki Swift Series is a touring car racing category in Australia. First held in 1995, the series only went for the one season when Suzuki importers ATECO pulled its support. Touring Car Racing
Touring car racing is a motorsport road racing competition with heavily modified road-going cars. It has both similarities to and significant differences from stock car racing, which is popular in the United States. While the cars do not move as fast as those in Formula racing, formula or sports car racing, sports car races, their similarity both to one another and to fans' own vehicles makes for entertaining, well-supported racing. The lesser use of aerodynamics means following cars have a much easier time passing than in open-wheel racing, and the more substantial bodies of the cars makes the subtle bumping and nudging for overtaking much more acceptable as part of racing. As well as short "sprint" races, many touring car series include one or more Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance races, which last anything from 3 to 24 hours and are a test of reliability and pit crews as much as car, driver speed, and consistency. 1995 Australian Suzuki Swift Series
The 1995 Kumho Tyres Suzuki Cup was the first running of the series. It was based around nine rounds following the 1995 Australian Touring Car Championship and Australian Super Touring Championship trail. Over 32 cars entered the series which was won by speedway driver Adam Clarke. The series was supported by Suzuki importer ATECO and launched the careers of NASCAR Truck driver Clarke, V8 Supercar drivers Warren Luff, Phillip Scifleet, Damian White and Anthony Robson as well as Formula 3000 competitor Andrej Pavicevic and A1 Grand Prix driver Christian Jones. 2011 Australian Suzuki Swift Series
The 2011 Australian Swift Series was the second running of the series. It was based around seven rounds in four different states. The season featured drivers like former 1987 Bathurst 1000 winner Peter McLeod and his son, former V8 Supercar competitor Ryan McLeod. Former V8 Utes driver Rob Jarvis, joined by his speedway driving son Allan, were regulars. 2012 Australian Suzuki Swift Series
The 2012 Hi Tech Oils Australian Swift Series is the third running of the series in Australia. It will be based around eight rounds in four different states, featuring for the second year the Suzuki Swift Sport RS416 model. Round 1 at Sydney's Eastern Creek Grand Prix Circuit saw Queenslander and reigning champion Allan Jarvis take pole position and win all three races. Second for the weekend was Country Music singer Adam Brand with rookie Reece Murphy third. Round 2 was held at Mallala Motor Sport Park in South Australia the week after Easter. The Suzuki Cultus is a supermini car produced by the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki from 1983 to 2016. The nameplate is currently used as a rebadged second-generation Suzuki Celerio in Pakistan since 2017.
