2011 Australian Suzuki Swift Series
The 2011 Australian Swift Series was the second running of the series. It was based around seven rounds in four different states. The season featured drivers like former 1987 Bathurst 1000 winner Peter McLeod and his son, former V8 Supercar competitor Ryan McLeod. Former V8 Utes driver Rob Jarvis, joined by his speedway driving son Allan, were regulars. Production Car racers Richard Mork, BJ Cook and New Zealanders Rex McCutcheon and Mark Gibson made appearances throughout the season. 1987 Bathurst 1000
The 1987 James Hardie 1000 was an endurance race for Group A Touring Cars, staged on 4 October 1987 at the Mount Panorama Circuit, near Bathurst, in New South Wales, Australia. The race was the eighth round of the inaugural World Touring Car Championship, and was the 28th in a sequence of Bathurst 1000 races, commencing with the 1960 Armstrong 500 held at Phillip Island. The race was shortened from 163 laps to 161 for 1987, when the track was slightly lengthened by the addition of the Caltex Chase, a chicane which was built in response to the death of Mike Burgmann in an accident during the previous year's race. The addition of The Chase saw lap times increase by approximately 4–5 seconds over those in 1986. 2011 Eastern Creek Six Hour
The 2011 Eastern Creek Six Hour was an endurance motor race for production cars, held on 11 December 2011, at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was Round 5 of the 2011 Australian Manufacturers' Championship, Round 5 of the 2011 Australian Production Car Championship, Round 3 of the 2011 Australian Endurance Championship and Round 2 of the 2011 Australian Production Car Endurance Championship. The race was originally to be run over an eight-hour duration, but this was reduced to six hours shortly before the event was run. The race was won by the BMW 335i of Chaz Mostert and Nathan Morcom and was the only round of the 2011 Australian Manufacturers' Championship not won by Stuart Kostera. Lakeside Raceway
Lakeside Park, formerly known as Lakeside International Raceway is a motor racing circuit located in Kurwongbah, Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. It is north of Brisbane, and lies adjacent to Lake Kurwongbah. The circuit was known as the spiritual home of Queensland motorsport and was built by volunteers and borrowed machinery in the 1960s. The circuit opened in 19 March 1961 and was closed in mid-2001. The circuit reopened on 5 April 2008, with a race meeting held the following day. Sandown Raceway
Sandown International Raceway is a motor racing circuit in the suburb of Springvale in Melbourne, Victoria, approximately south east of the city centre. Sandown is considered a power circuit with its " drag strip" front and back straights being and long respectively. History Sandown Racecourse was first built as a horse racing facility, dating back into the 19th century, but closed in the 1930s in a government run rationalisation program. Redevelopment began not long after World War II. A bitumen motor racing circuit was built around the outside of the proposed horse track (which was not completed until 1965) and was first opened in 1962 and held the race which became the Sandown 500 for the first time in 1964. Winton Motor Raceway is a motor racing track in Winton, Victoria, Winton, near Benalla, Victoria, Benalla, Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. History The Benalla Auto Club began planning for a permanent racing track around 1958, as a replacement for their existing track at Barjarg. Peter McLeod
Peter Gerard McLeod (born 6 May 1948 in Newcastle, New South Wales) is a retired Australian racing driver, best known as co-winner of the 1987 James Hardie 1000 at Bathurst, and for driving the distinctive yellow and black Slick 50 Mazda RX-7 Group C touring car during the early to mid-1980s. Group C Touring Cars McLeod began his racing career in 1980 at the relatively old age of 32, progressing immediately into touring car racing where in just three seasons to become one of Australia's fastest privately entered touring car racers, and the fastest Mazda RX-7's behind Allan Moffat's factory supported team (though with reportedly more horsepower than Moffat's cars).
