Australian Netball Players’ Association
The Australian Netball Players’ Association (ANPA) is an organisation that represents the professional netball players of Australia. The Association's aim is to act as a collective voice to promote the interests and protect the welfare of Australia's elite netballers, as well as provide education and support to those players. Current administration Jo Weston is the current president of the ANPA and Tara Hinchliffe is the current vice-president. Geoff Parmenter is the current chairman, Kathryn Harby-Williams is the current chief executive officer, Treasurer and Secretary, while Natalie von Bertouch is the current Transition Manager. The remaining members of the ANPA's board are Hannah Petty, Jo Harten, Maddy Turner, Gabi Simpson, Sophie Garbin and Sasha Glasgow. Jo Weston
Joanna Weston (born 14 February 1994) is an Australian netball player for the Australian Diamonds and Melbourne Vixens in the Suncorp Super Netball league. She was part of the Diamonds side that won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Weston has been a member of the Diamonds squad since her debut at the Constellation Cup in 2015. She was also in the Australian team at the 2019 Netball World Cup, finishing runners up to New Zealand. Weston was named ''Goal Defender of the Year'' and ''Player of the Finals'' in the 2017 Suncorp Super Netball season. She was in the Vixens side that won the premiership in the 2022 season. Sophie Garbin
Sophie Garbin (born 6 April 1997) is an Australian netball player. She was a member of the New South Wales Swifts teams that won the 2019 and 2021 Suncorp Super Netball titles. In 2017 she was also a member of the Western Sting team that won the Australian Netball League title. She was also a member of the Australia team that won the bronze medal at the 2018 Fast5 Netball World Series. Garbin's older sister, Darcee Garbin, is an Australia women's basketball international. Early life, family and education Garbin is originally from Western Australia. Born in Kalgoorlie, she was raised in Kambalda before moving to Perth with her family when she was 13. Netball is the most popular women's team participation sport in Australia. In 1985, there were 347,000 players. In 1995, there were over 360,000 Australian netball players. Throughout most of Australia's netball history, the game has largely been a participation sport; it has not managed to become a large spectator sport. 2023 Netball World Cup
The 2023 Netball World Cup will be the sixteenth staging of the premier competition in international netball, contested every four years. The tournament will be held from Friday, 28 July to Sunday, 6 August at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. This will mark the first time the tournament will be held in Africa. Organisation The host city and venue was announced by the International Netball Federation (INF) on 8 March 2019, only months prior to the staging of the 2019 edition in Liverpool, England. Cape Town's bid, supported by the South African Government and the Western Cape province, was selected by the INF ahead of a bid by Auckland, New Zealand. Australia National Netball Team
The Australia national netball team, also known as the Australian Diamonds, represent Netball Australia in international netball tournaments such as the INF Netball World Cup, the Commonwealth Games, the Constellation Cup, the Netball Quad Series and the Fast5 Netball World Series. They have also represented Australia at the World Games. Australia made their Test debut in 1938. Gabi Simpson
Gabrielle Simpson (born 17 October 1992), also known as Gabi Simpson, is an Australia netball international. Simpson was vice-captain of the Australia team that won the silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Simpson was also a member of the Queensland Firebirds teams that won the 2015 and 2016 ANZ Championships. Since 2017, Simpson has captained Firebirds in Suncorp Super Netball. Tara Hinchliffe
Tara Hinchliffe (born 25 May 1998) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for the Queensland Firebirds. She also serves as the vice-president of the Australian Netball Players’ Association. Hinchliffe was signed by the Firebirds in June 2017, having previously been captain and MVP of the Queensland under 19 side at that year's Australian National Netball Championships. She was also selected in the Australian side to compete at the World Youth Cup, making her a significant acquisition for the Firebirds. Maddy Turner
Maddy Turner (born 17 December 1995) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for the New South Wales Swifts. Turner was born in Adelaide and grew up playing netball at an elite level, representing Australia at under 17, 19 and 21 level and featuring in the South Australia National Under-21 Championships in 2015. Joanne Elizabeth Harten (born 21 March 1989) is a former England netball international. She was a member of the England team that won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She also sits on the board of the Australian Netball Players’ Association. In 2020 she received an for her services to netball. She was also a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011, 2015 and 2019 Netball World Cups.
