Australian Esperanto Association
The Australian Esperanto Association (AEA) is a national Esperanto association of Australia. It is affiliated with the Universal Esperanto Association. History The Australian Esperanto Association was formed in October 1911, during the first Australian congress, attended by 53 Esperantists. In 1976 AEA hosted the first Pacific Congress of Esperanto, in Melbourne. This was attended by 190 people, 51 from overseas. In 1988 it hosted the 4th Pacific Congress in Brisbane, with 204 attending, 76 from overseas. In 1997 the 82nd world congress of Esperanto was held in Adelaide. Approximately one thousand Esperantists from 54 countries came to the congress, 820 of them from overseas. Esperanto
Esperanto ( or ) is the world's most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language. Created by the Warsaw-based ophthalmologist L. L. Zamenhof in 1887, it was intended to be a universal second language for international communication, or "the international language" (). Zamenhof first described the language in '' Dr. Esperanto's International Language'' (), which he published under the pseudonym . Early adopters of the language liked the name ''Esperanto'' and soon used it to describe his language. The word translates into English as "one who hopes". Torquay is a seaside resort in Victoria, Australia, which faces Bass Strait, 21 km south of Geelong and is the gateway to the Great Ocean Road. Academy Of Esperanto
The Akademio de Esperanto (AdE; en, Academy of Esperanto, link=yes) is an independent body of Esperanto speakers who steward the evolution of said language by keeping it consistent with the ''Fundamento de Esperanto'' in accordance with the Declaration of Boulogne. Modeled somewhat after the Académie française and the Real Academia Española, the Akademio was proposed by L. L. Zamenhof, the creator of Esperanto, at the first World Esperanto Congress, and was founded soon thereafter under the name ''Lingva Komitato'' (Language Committee). This Committee had a "superior commission" called the ''Akademio''. In 1948, within the framework of a general reorganization, the Language Committee and the Academy combined to form the Akademio de Esperanto. Trevor Steele
Trevor Steele (born 1940) is an Australian Esperantist who has written numerous short stories and novels in Esperanto. Steele's work is strongly influenced by his travel experiences in Germany, Western Europe and elsewhere, and is further enriched by experiences in Asia and Australia, mainly concerning indigenous people's problems, which were his concern during his year and a half of working at the Australian education department. He wrote two important books about relationships between the indigenous and non-indigenous populations, ''Flugi kun kakatuoj'' (2010) — published in English as ''Soaring with cockatoos'' (2012) and in French as ''Comme un vol d'oiseaux sacrés'' (2013) — and ''Paradizo ŝtelita'' (''Paradise stolen'', 2012). 3ZZZ (''3 Triple Zed'') is an ethnic community radio station in Melbourne, Victoria that currently broadcasts programs in over 70 languages on 92.3 MHz FM and is licensed to Mount Dandenong. 3ZZZ is Australia's largest community multilingual radio station, with estimates at over 400,000 listeners, providing an independent, alternative and local voice in the media. The New Zealand Esperanto Association (NZEA; eo, Nov-Zelanda Esperanto-Asocio; Māori: ''Te Rōpū o Aotearoa mō te Reo o te Ao'') is the national Esperanto association of New Zealand. It is an incorporated society and affiliated with the Universal Esperanto Association. History NZEA was founded in Auckland on 1 February 1910.
