Atimonan
Atimonan, officially the Municipality of Atimonan ( tgl, Bayan ng Atimonan), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Quezon, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 64,260 people. It lies on the eastern shore of the province, from Lucena and southeast of Manila. Atimonan is bounded by the municipalities of Gumaca, Plaridel, Pagbilao and Padre Burgos. Geography Barangays Atimonan is politically subdivided into 42 barangays. Climate History There were conflicting stories on how Atimonan got its name. Some concluded that the name Atimonan originated from a tree known as ''Atimon'' alleged to have been prevalent in the area and had reportedly served many uses to the residents. These trees are now extinct and its non-existence could not be accounted for. Others say it came from the words ''atin muna'', signifying a policy, unity of feeling, and sentiments among the residents that bolster their spirit in the fight against their enemies ... Plaridel, officially the Municipality of Plaridel ( tgl, Bayan ng Plaridel), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Quezon, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 10,129 people. The municipality was created in 1962 by virtue of Republic Act No. 3493 where its territories carved out from Atimonan. Plaridel is from Lucena and from Manila. Geography The smallest municipality in the province of Quezon, Plaridel has an area of 33 square kilometers comprising nine barangays - four of which are poblaciones - and its population is around 11,000. Gumaca, Quezon
Gumaca, officially the Municipality of Gumaca ( tgl, Bayan ng Gumaca), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Quezon, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 71,942 people. It is located at the mouth of what is now known as Pipisik River and nestled at the foot of the Sierra Madre range. The town is widely known as a ''heritage town'' due to the many ancestral houses and old structures that abound in the area, including a fortress from the Spanish era.
