Athletics At The 2018 African Youth Games
The athletics (sport), athletics competitions at the 2018 African Youth Games in Algiers, Algeria was held between 24 and 27 July at the July 5, 1962 Stadium. The competition served as the qualification for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics which took place in October 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Abrham Sime
Abrham Sime (born 7 November 2001) is an Ethiopian steeplechase runner. Career Some won the men's 2000m steeplechase in the Youth Olympic Games 2018. Sime was second in the 3000m steeplechase Ethiopian Olympic trials in June 2021 behind Bikila Tadese Takele with both men running personal bests, Sime ran 8:12:11 to secure his qualification for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics and was chosen in the Ethiopian squad. However, Sime did not compete. He ran a new personal best of 8:10.73 at the Paris Diamond League event in June 2023, in the same race that his compatriot Lamecha Girma broke the world record in the men's 3,000 metres steeplechase. He ran a new personal best in July 2023 at the Diamond League event in Monaco, running 8:10.56 to finish third behind winner Simon Koech. Oscar Chelimo
Oscar Chelimo (born 12 December 2001) is a Ugandan long-distance runner. His older brother, Jacob Kiplimo is also an elite long-distance runner. Career In 2018, he finished in 7th place in the men's 5000 metres event at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships held in Tampere, Finland. In 2018, he also competed in the boys' 3000 metres at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires, Argentina and he won the bronze medal. He represented Uganda at the 2019 African Games held in Rabat, Morocco. He competed in the men's 5000 metres and he finished in 5th place. In that same year, he also competed in the men's 5000 metres event at the 2019 World Athletics Championships held in Doha, Qatar though he did not qualify to compete in the final. Berihu Aregawi
Berihu Aregawi (born 28 February 2001) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. He placed fourth in the 10,000 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Aregawi currently holds world record in the 5 kilometres road race. Career Berihu Aregawi was the bronze medalist in the 10,000 metres at the 2018 World U20 Championships in Tampere behind Rhonex Kipruto and Jacob Kiplimo. He won the 3000 metres race at the African Youth Games. He then went to Argentina for the Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires and placed second in the combined 3000m event.
