Gotland
Gotland (, ; ''Gutland'' in Gutnish), also historically spelled Gottland or Gothland (), is Sweden's largest island. It is also a province, county, municipality, and diocese. The province includes the islands of Fårö and Gotska Sandön to the north, as well as the Karlsö Islands ( Lilla and Stora) to the west. The population is 61,001, of which about 23,600 live in Visby, the main town. Outside Visby, there are minor settlements and a mainly rural population. The island of Gotland and the other areas of the province of Gotland make up less than one percent of Sweden's total land area. The county formed by the archipelago is the second smallest by area and is the least populated in Sweden. Alastair Chalmers (born 31 March 2000) is a British track and field hurdler who specialises in the 400 metres hurdles. The Guernsey record-holder for the 400 metres hurdles, Chalmers currently competes for both Guernsey and Great Britain. In addition to multiple Island Games medals, Chalmers is the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Champion. In 2022 Chalmers became British 400m Hurdles Champion for the third successive year. In June 2020, Chalmers rose to 4th on the British all time list and 24th on the worldwide all time list for 300 metres hurdles. Peter Irving (October 30, 1771 - June 27, 1838) was an American physician, author, and politician who was the brother of Washington Irving, William Irving and John T. Irving. Early life Irving was born in New York City on October 30, 1771. He was one of eleven children born to William Irving Sr. (1731–1807), originally of Quholm, Shapinsay, Orkney, Scotland, and Sarah (née Sanders) Irving (1738–1817). Lee Merrien
Lee Merrien (born 26 April 1979) is a British middle distance and long-distance runner. He has been named to the British team for the 2012 Summer Olympics following a Facebook campaign after he was initially not selected to the team. He has won multiple events at the Island Games for his home of Guernsey. Career Merrien competed at his first Island Games in Gotland in 1999, however he did finish in a medal position that year. Representing his home of Guernsey, he went on to win nine gold medals over the next several years at the Island Games in the half marathon, 1,500 m, 5,000 m and 4 × 400 m relay, and also won two silver medals and one bronze. At the 2009 Island Games on the Isle of Wight he set Island Games records in both the 1,500 m and the 5,000 m events. In the 2011 London Marathon, he set a new personal best of 2 h 14 min 27 s, which was within the "B" qualifying time for the 2012 Summer Olympics and was the fastest British competitor in the race.
