Alastair Chalmers
Alastair Chalmers (born 31 March 2000) is a British track and field hurdler who specialises in the 400 metres hurdles. The Guernsey record-holder for the 400 metres hurdles, Chalmers currently competes for both Guernsey and Great Britain. In addition to multiple Island Games medals, Chalmers is the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Champion. In 2022 Chalmers became British 400m Hurdles Champion for the third successive year. In June 2020, Chalmers rose to 4th on the British all time list and 24th on the worldwide all time list for 300 metres hurdles. 2020 British Athletics Championships
The 2020 British Athletics Championships (known for sponsorship reasons as the Müller British Athletics Championships) was the national championship in outdoor track and field for athletes in the United Kingdom. The championship took place on 4–5 September 2020, having been postponed from June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Background The championship was originally scheduled for 20–21 June 2020, but in April 2020 it was postponed until 8–9 August due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2020, the event was postponed again, to 4–5 September 2020. 300 Metres Hurdles
The 300 metres hurdles (also spelled 300 meters hurdles in American English) is an athletics or track and field event. It is a cut-down version of the International event the 400 metres hurdles. It is a standard event under the NFHS in American high school competition and a championship level event in Masters athletics. The two iterations of the event vary somewhat. Common to all long hurdling events, the distance between hurdles is 35 metres. High school The high school version uses a standard 45 meter start to the first hurdle. Thus the high school race is equivalent to beginning of a standard 400 meter hurdle race, but its placement on the track is shifted 100 meters around the track so it finishes at the common finish line on the straightaway, where the longer race would reach the same point near the end of the second turn. Guernsey participates in its own right in the Commonwealth Games. Guernsey participates in the bi-annual Island Games, which it hosted in 1987 and 2003. In sporting events in which Guernsey does not have international representation, when the British Home Nations are competing separately, islanders that do have high athletic skill may choose to compete for any of the Home Nations – there are, however, restrictions on subsequent transfers to represent another Home Nation. 400 Metres Hurdles
The 400 metres hurdles is a track and field hurdling event. The event has been on the Olympic athletics programme since 1900 for men and since 1984 for women. On a standard outdoor track, 400 metres is the length of the inside lane, once around the stadium. Runners stay in their lanes the entire way after starting out of the blocks and must clear ten hurdles that are evenly spaced around the track. The hurdles are positioned and weighted so that they fall forward if bumped into with sufficient force, to prevent injury to the runners. Although there is no longer any penalty for knocking hurdles over, runners prefer to clear them cleanly, as touching them during the race slows runners down. The best male athletes can run the 400 m hurdles in a time of around 46 seconds, while the very best female athletes achieve a time of around 51 seconds.
