''Athirathram'' is a 1984 Indian Malayalam-language action thriller film directed by I. V. Sasi, written by John Paul and starring Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Seema. Mammootty's character Tharadas re-appears in Sasi's 2006 film '' Balram vs. Tharadas''. ''Athirathram'' was the third highest grossing Malayalam film of the year 1984. It was one of the films that elevated the leading actor Mammootty achieving ''Superstar'' status. The character ''Tharadas'' became a cult figure and became popular among the youth. Because of this popularity, this character was retained in the film '' Balram vs. Tharadas'' (2006). Plot Tharadas is a ruthless smuggler whose uncle was murdered by Rajesh. Rajesh is married to Thulasi who has a dark past with Tharadas. Tharadas's cousin kills Rajesh and accuses Tharadas of the murder. Raju Mathew
Raju Mathew ( – 12 November 2019) was an Indian film producer from Kerala. He produced 45 films. He was the owner of Century Films. Biography Mathew worked in an insurance company before coming to the film arena. Later he gave up the job and established Century Films in 1979. Then he began to produce films. He produced mainly Malayalam films. Besides Malayalam films he also produced a Hindi film titled ''Anokha Rishta''. ''Athiran'' was the last film which was produced by him. He was the president of the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce. Mathew was married to Lily Mathew. Anjana Jacob and Ranjana Mathew are their daughters. Mathew died on 12 November 2019 at the age of 82. Kavalam Narayana Panicker (1 May 1928 – 26 June 2016) was an Indian dramatist, theatre director, and poet. He has written over 26 Malayalam plays, many adapted from classical Sanskrit drama and Shakespeare, notably Kalidasa's ''Vikramorvasiyam'' (1981, 1996), ''Shakuntalam'' (1982), Bhasa's ''Madhyamavyayogam'' (1979), ''Karnabharam'' (1984, 2001), ''Uru Bhangam'' (1988), ''Swapnavasavadattam'', and ''Dootavakyam'' (1996). He was the founder director of theatre troupe, Sopanam, which led to the foundation of Bhashabharati: Centre for Performing Arts, Training and Research, in Trivandrum. Sukumari Amma (6 October 1940 – 26 March 2013) was an Indian actress best known for her works in Malayalam and Tamil films. In a career spanning more than five decades, She has appeared in more than 2500 films predominantly in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, along with few Hindi and one each in Sinhala, French, Bengali, Tulu, English and Kannada films.
