Atheist Film Festival
The Atheist Film Festival was an annual event that ran from 2009-2014. When it launched, it was the world’s first film festival dedicated to showcasing feature films, documentaries, shorts and animated cinema created especially for the atheist community. It was founded by David Fitzgerald, Hank Pellissier and Veronica Chater and focused on films recognizing science, the distinction between church and state and more and as of 2012 was the only explicitly atheist film festival. The Festival grew over the years from small films that the founders rented from Netflix to VIP receptions, and in its fifth year, programming at San Francisco's Roxie Theater. In 2014 the founders announced the festival's end. Hank Pellissier
Hank Pellissier is a writer, editor, speaker, producer, and nonprofit director - he has been involved with transhumanist, atheist, educational, and humanitarian topics. Career In the 1980s and 1990s, Pellissier used the moniker "Hank Hyena" as a San Francisco performance artist, slam poet, and metro journalist. John Strausbaugh, in a highly critical review of the anthology ''The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry'' for ''New York Press'' in 2015, described Hank Hyena as one of the "better representatives of the 90s shout-it-out school of poetry". As Hank Hyena, Pellissier contributed to ''Salon.com'', ''SFGate.com'', and ''GettingIt.com'', performed at the Cleveland Performance Art Festival, and produced a "subversive" fashion show as part of a Mozart festival in San Francisco in 1991. Veronica Chater
Veronica Chater is an American author and memoirist. Chater wrote a memoir of her childhood, ''Waiting for the Apocalypse: A Memoir of Faith and Family'', highlighting her father's obsession with traditional Catholicism and belief in a coming holy chastisement, and her ever-growing family's consequential spiral into poverty. Chater was one of nine children and currently lives in Berkley, California. Roxie Theater
The Roxie Theater, also known as the Roxie Cinema or just The Roxie, is a historic movie theater, founded in 1912, at 3117 16th Street in the Mission District of San Francisco. It is a non-profit community arthouse cinema. History The Roxie is one of the oldest continuously operating movie theaters in the US, with its history tracing back to the early 1900s. The 300-seat theater was renovated in 1933, changed its name to the Roxie, and added its unusual marquee with neon sign but no place for movie titles.
