The Assam Football Association (AFA) is one of the 37 Indian State Football Associations that are affiliated to the All India Football Federation. It governs association football in the state of Assam, India and also administers the Assam men's and women's football teams. Naba Kumar Doley is in the charge of current president and Dr. Sangrang Brahma is the general secretary of Assam FA. History Assam Football Association was formed in 1946, but the game of football has been played since before independence of India. It is affiliated to the AIFF, Assam council of sports and Assam Olympic Association. Manipur was part of Assam Football Association, until they got the affiliation from AIFF in 1973. The Assam FA conducts inter-district football tournaments of various age groups for men and women as well as divisional football leagues in Assam. Guwahati (, ; formerly rendered Gauhati, ) is the biggest city of the Indian state of Assam and also the largest metropolis in northeastern India. Assam State Premier League
Assam State Premier League (ASPL) is the state-level top division football league in the Indian state of Assam, organised by the Assam Football Association and the Guwahati Sports Association. The inaugural edition of the league started in 2008 with Assam Rifles SC winning its first title. Competition structure The winner of Assam State Premier League gets promoted to I-League 2, and the last position team gets relegated to the Assam Club Championship. From 2015 season the league has been revamped with the new format. The teams have been divided into two zones - Upper Assam and Lower Assam. Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup
Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup is a association football, football league cup in the Bodoland Territorial Region, Assam, India, organised by Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) in memory of Bodoland martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Bodoland movement. The 21st edition of the tournament was won by United Chirang Duar FC, Runikatha by defeating Baarhoongkha Athletic Club, Kokrajhar 1–0 in the final, played at Banargaon Jaiklong Sports Club ground. They got I-League 2 qualifier spot, since the Assam State Premier League has not been held. 2017 season The 2017 season was won by Gobinda Basumatary FC (GBFC) from Gossaigaon defeating NF Railway Sports Club, Maligaon by a scoreline of 1–0. The Bodousa Cup is an invitational football tournament in India, held across multiple venues of Assam and organised by Bodousa Sports Club annually under the supervision of Assam Football Association. ATPA Shield
The Assam Tea Planters' Association Shield, commonly known as the A.T.P.A. Shield, is an annual Indian association football tournament held in Jorhat, Assam and organised by Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA). It is one of the esteemed and the third oldest football tournament of Assam after Independence Day Cup and Bordoloi Trophy. Since its inception in 1955, along with the best teams from northeast India many top clubs of the country like Mohammedan SC, Mohun Bagan AC (both from Kolkata) and Dempo SC (Goa) have also participated in this leading tournament. Bordoloi Trophy
The Bordoloi Trophy, also known as the Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy, is a premier annual Indian football tournament held in Guwahati and organized by Guwahati Sports Association (GSA). The tournament was first started in 1952 and is named after Assam's first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi. Apart from some top clubs from India, clubs from Nepal, Bangladesh and Thailand have also participated in this championship. Abahani Limited of Bangladesh lifted the 2010 trophy. Mohun Bagan AC of Kolkata has won the tournament for record seven times. Guwahati Sports Association had announced that the 68th edition of the Bordoloi Trophy football tournament was going to be held from March 24, 2022. Delhi FC won that edition which was their 1st title of the tournament by defeating Nagaland Police in the final clash.
