Aspropyrgos
Aspropyrgos ( el, Ασπρόπυργος) is a suburb of Athens, and a municipality in the West Attica regional unit, Attica, Greece. The municipality had a population of 30,251 at the 2011 census. It has an area of 101.983 km2. Etymology The name 'Aspropyrgos' is derived from the Greek words , meaning 'white', and , meaning 'castle' or 'tower'. Geography Aspropyrgos is located 15 km northwest of the city center of Athens in the Thriasio Plain. It is 5 km northeast of Elefsina, near the Saronic Gulf coast. Mount Parnitha forms its northern border, and the Aigaleo hills its southeastern border. The Elefsina Military Airbase lies to its west. The main street is Dimokratias ('Democracy') Avenue. Aspropyrgos Railway Station
Aspropyrgos Railway Station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Ασπροπύργου, Sidirodromikós Stathmós Aspropýrgou) is a train station in the municipality of Aspropyrgos, West Attica, Greece. The station is located north of the residential area, on the Athens Airport–Patras railway. The station is served by Line 2 of the Athens Suburban Railway between and . It is located adjacent to the Thriasian Plain freight yard owned by OSE. History It opened on 18 July 2006 and should not be confused with the older station on the Piraeus–Patras railway that is located further south, inside the town of Aspropyrgos. Aspropyrgos Refinery
The Aspropyrgos Refinery is an oil refining complex located near Aspropyrgos, a suburb of Athens, in Greece. It is operated by Hellenic Petroleum. The refinery has a nominal annual refining capacity of 7.5 million tons (). Equipment The fluid catalytic cracking is the main conversion unit, with a nominal capacity of . The unit processes atmospheric residue and vacuum gas oil of the Aspropyrgos and Thessaloniki refineries, to produce higher value products. With the upgrade of the naphtha hydrodesulfurization and reforming units and with the operation of the TAME unit, the refinery is in a position to produce high octane gasoline with strict environmental specifications (10 ppm S) which supplies to the entire market and covers 80% of the total group production in gasoline products. West Attica ( el, Δυτική Αττική) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Attica. Fyli ( el, Φυλή, , meaning "tribe") is a town and a municipality in the northwestern part of Attica, Greece. It lies in the northeastern corner of the West Attica regional unit, and is a suburb of Athens. The seat of the municipality is the town Ano Liosia. Within bounds of the town is the ancient Athenian fortress of Phyle. Thriasio Plain
The Thriasio Plain ( el, Θριάσιο Πεδίο, translit=Thriasio Pedio) is a plain in western Attica, immediately to the west of Athens, in Greece. It is bounded by Mount Egaleo to the east, Mount Parnitha to the north, Mount Pateras to the west, and the Bay of Elefsina to the south. History The Thriasio Plain owes its name to the ancient deme of Thria ( el, Θρία), one the demes of ancient Athens. Ano Liosia
Ano Liosia ( el, Άνω Λιόσια) is a suburb and a former municipality in the northern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Fyli, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 38.447 km2. Geography Ano Liosia lies in the eastern part of West Attica, between the mountains Parnitha to its north and Aigaleo to its southwest. It is 3 km west of Acharnes, 3 km north of Kamatero, 4 km southeast of Fyli, 10 km east of Aspropyrgos and 11 km north of Athens city centre. Transportation The Ano Liosia railway station is served by Proastiakos trains to the Athens International Airport and to Kiato in the Peloponnese. Motorway 6 ( el, Αυτοκινητόδρομος 6) or Attica Motorway or Attiki Odos (Greek: Αττική Οδός) is a privately owned toll motorway in Greece, part of the Attiki Odos system. Connecting Eleusis in the west with the Athens International Airport in the east, it forms the northern beltway of Athens. The length of the motorway is .
