Askrova
Askrova is an island in Kinn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located along the Brufjorden, near the mouth of the Førdefjorden, about northwest of the island of Svanøya. Askrova sits about southwest of the town of Florø and about the same distance southeast of the island of Reksta. The population of the island (2001) was 143, with most residents living on the south and west shores of the island. The tall mountain ''Skara'' is the highest point on the island. Askrova Chapel is located on the island. The main industry for the island is fishing. In 1936, there was a record catch of herring at Askrova. Official figures put it at between of herring. Askrova Chapel
Askrova Chapel ( no, Askrova bedehuskapell) is a chapel (and community centre) of the Church of Norway in Kinn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the small village of Espeset on the west side of the island of Askrova. It is an annex chapel in the Bru parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden chapel was built in 1957 in a long church design. The chapel seats about 120 people. The parish holds about six worship services per year at the chapel, in addition to special services such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals. History Fundraising for a prayer house on the island of Askrova began in the 1920s, and some money was raised, but it was slow. In 1953, after World War II, this effort gained traction and began to yield results. A prayer house chapel was built in 1957 with Kristoffer Stensbakk as the builder. Kinn is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It was established on 1 January 2020. It is in the traditional districts of Nordfjord and Sunnfjord. The municipality is the only non-contiguous municipality in Norway since the municipality of Bremanger lies in between the north and south parts of Kinn. The administrative centres of the municipality is the two cities of Florø and Måløy. Some villages in the municipality include Rognaldsvåg, Stavang, Grov, Norddalsfjord, Nyttingnes, Steinhovden, Brandsøy, Deknepollen, Holvika, Kvalheim, Langeneset, Raudeberg, Refvika, Silda, Tennebø, Vedvika, and Vågsvåg. Svanøya
Svanøy (also called Svanøyna and Brulandet) is an island in the municipality of Kinn in Vestland county, Norway. The island is located in the Sunnfjord district of the county. The island lies just to the west of the mainland, in the mouth of the Førdefjorden. The Brufjorden runs along the north and east sides of the island and the Stavfjorden runs along the south side of the island. The island of Askrova lies about northwest of Svanøy. The island of Svanøy is heavily forested with many hills and small mountains. On Svanøy, there are plants and trees that usually are not found on the west coast of Norway, such as holly. Vestland
Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. The county is one of two counties in Norway that have Nynorsk as their official written language form (the others are neutral as to which form people use). Florø
is a town and the administrative centre of the municipality of Kinn, Vestland, Norway. The town was founded by royal decree in 1860 as a ladested on the island of Florelandet, located between the Botnafjorden and Solheimsfjorden. Florø is Norway's (and thus the Scandinavian Peninsula's) westernmost town. It is the most western town on the mainland in the Nordic countries. Fishing
Fishing is the activity of trying to catch fish. Fish are often caught as wildlife from the natural environment, but may also be caught from stocked bodies of water such as ponds, canals, park wetlands and reservoirs. Fishing techniques include hand-gathering, spearing, netting, angling, shooting and trapping, as well as more destructive and often illegal techniques such as electrocution, blasting and poisoning.
