''Asia'' ( he, אסיה) is a 2020 Israeli drama film directed by Ruthy Pribar, starring Alena Yiv and Shira Haas. The film was premiered online at the Tribeca Film Festival, 2020 Tribeca Film Festival (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), where it won the awards for Tribeca Film Festival Award for Best Actress, Best Actress (Shira Haas), Best Cinematography (Daniella Nowitz) as well as the Nora Ephron Prize (Ruthy Pribar). After winning Best Picture at the 30th Israeli Academy Awards (Ophir Awards), it was automatically submitted as the Israeli entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Alena (Alona) Yiv ( he, אלונה איב, russian: Алёна Ив; born on November 30, 1979) is an Israeli actress and director. Biography Born as Alyona Ovsyanick (russian: Алёна Овсянник) in Saint Petersburg, Soviet Russia, to a psychologist mother and an economist father. She has two younger sisters, one an Israeli economist and second, Ksenia Ovsyanick, principal ballerina at Berlin State Ballet, who resides in Berlin. At fourteen years old Yiv made Aliyah to Israel with NAALE Program. This is a list of submissions to the 93rd Academy Awards for the Best International Feature Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The International Feature Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The category was previously called the Best Foreign Language Film, but this was changed in April 2019 to Best International Feature Film, after the Academy deemed the word "Foreign" to be outdated. Israel has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1964. Despite its relatively small film-making industry, ten Israeli films have been nominated for the Foreign Language Oscar, placing it in the Top Ten most nominated countries of all time. However, as of 2022, no Israeli film has ever won the coveted award. Since 1991, the Israeli Ophir Award winner for Best Film is automatically designated the Israeli submission for the Oscar.
