Ashleigh Karaitiana (born 26 June 1992) is a New Zealand and Australian professional basketball player. College Karaitiana played college basketball at the University of Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine in Honolulu, Hawaii. In her last year Karaitiana scored 17 points, making five 3-pointers, and Hawaii throttled UC Davis 78-59 in the Big West Conference Tournament championship game To qualify for the NCAA tournament. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). 2015–16 Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Hawaii Rainbow Wahine women's basketball team represented the University of Hawaii at Manoa during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Wahine, led by fourth-year head coach Laura Beeman, played their home games at the Stan Sheriff Center as members of the Big West Conference. They finished the season 22–11, including 12–4 in Big West play to finish tied for second place with Long Beach State. Hawaii won the Big West tournament. With that conference tournament title, Hawaii earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and lost in the first round to UCLA. The 2019 FIBA Women's Asia Cup was the first step for the qualification for FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania for the women's basketball tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The other medalists in the tournament were Spain (silver) and Argentina (bronze). Spain's Marta Xargay was chosen as the tournaments MVP with an average of 15.4 PPG. Australia also had a strong tournament led by Elizabeth Cambage and had a solid 8-1 record at the end of the tournament. Elizabeth Folake Cambage (born 18 August 1991) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Cambage currently holds the WNBA single-game scoring record with her 53-point performance against the New York Liberty on 17 July 2018. Guy Molloy
Guy Molloy (born 4 November 1965) is an Australian basketball coach, who is currently the head coach of the Southland Sharks in the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL). Coaching career WNBL Molloy began his coaching career as head coach of the Canberra Capitals for the 1989 WNBL season. Between 1993 to 1996 he served as head coach of the Perth Breakers. The Breakers reached the finals in all four of Molloy's seasons, including reaching the 1993 Grand Final. In 1995, Molloy was named the WNBL Coach of the Year. In 2013, Molloy returned to the WNBL, as head coach of the newly branded Melbourne Boomers. In his first season back, after leading the Boomers to the semi-finals, he was named the WNBL Coach of the Year for the second time. The New Zealand's elite women's basketball team is affectionately known to their home fans as the Tall Ferns. The team has been coached by Guy Molloy since 2018.
