Arthur Trahan
Arthur Trahan, (May 26, 1877 – September 22, 1950) was a Canadian lawyer, judge and political figure in Quebec. He represented Nicolet in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1913 to 1917 and Nicolet in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1923 as a :Liberal. He was born in Nicolet, Quebec, the son of Narcisse Trahan and Adéline-Rébecca Rousseau, and was educated at the Séminaire de Nicolet and the Université Laval. He was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1901 and set up practice in Nicolet. He was married twice: to Joséphine Dufresne in 1902 and to Diane Leduc in 1924. Trahan served as a member of the municipal council for Nicolet from 1911 to 1919. He was named King's Counsel in 1912. Trahan was bâtonnier for Trois-Rivières district in 1916 and 1917. He resigned his seat in the provincial assembly in 1917 to run for a federal seat. In 1923, Trahan resigned his seat in the House of Commons after he was named to the Quebec Superior Court. Nicolet (federal Electoral District)
Nicolet was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1935. It was created by the ''British North America Act'', 1867 which preserved existing electoral districts in Lower Canada. It consisted of the County of Nicolet. From 1903 to 1924, it included the parishes of Ste. Brigitte, Ste. Eulalie, Ste. Perpétue and St. Samuel. It was abolished in 1933 when it was redistributed into Lotbinière and Nicolet—Yamaska ridings. Nicolet, Quebec
Nicolet () is the county seat of Nicolet-Yamaska Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census was 8,169. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nicolet. The residents of the town pronounce the final "t" in Nicolet, however people outside of the region do not. History The town took its name from Jean Nicolet, a French explorer and clerk of the Company of One Hundred Associates, who explored the Great Lakes region west to Wisconsin. Despite never having lived there, he explored the area during the seven years he lived in Trois-Rivières. The area was originally settled by the Abenaki tribe, who knew it as ''Pithigan'' or ''Pithiganek'', meaning "entrance". The Superior Court of Quebec (french: Cour supérieure du Québec) is a superior trial court in the Province of Quebec, in Canada. It consists of 157 judges who are appointed by the federal government. Appeals from this court are taken to the Quebec Court of Appeal. In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel ( post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer.
