Diplomatic relations exist between Armenia and Canada. Both nations are members of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie and the United Nations. History Canada recognized Armenia soon after its separation from the Soviet Union in 1991. In 1992, Armenia and Canada formally established diplomatic relations. Over the years, both nations have signed bilateral agreements, such as a Trade and Commerce Agreement (1999); Promotion and Protection of Investments Agreement (1999) and an Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and on Capital (1999). In 2006 Canada officially recognized the Armenian genocide. Anahit Harutyunyan
Anahit ( hy, Անահիտ, fa, آناهید) was the goddess of fertility and healing, wisdom and water in Armenian mythology. In early periods she was the goddess of war. By the 5th century BCE she was the main deity in Armenia along with Aramazd. The Armenian goddess Anahit is related to the similar Iranian goddess Anahita. Anahit's worship, most likely borrowed from the Iranians during the Median invasion or the early Achaemenid period, was of paramount significance in Armenia. ''Ararat'' is a 2002 historical film, historical-Drama (film and television), drama film written and directed by Atom Egoyan and starring Charles Aznavour, Christopher Plummer, David Alpay, Arsinée Khanjian, Eric Bogosian, Bruce Greenwood and Elias Koteas. Armenian Canadians (Western Armenian: գանատահայեր, Eastern Armenian: կանադահայեր, ''kanadahayer''; french: Arméno-Canadiens) are citizens and permanent residents of Canada who have total or partial Armenian ancestry. According to the 2016 Canadian Census they number almost 64,000, while independent estimates claim around 80,000 Canadians of Armenian origin, with the highest estimates reaching 100,000.
