Arizona State Mine Inspector
The Arizona State Mine Inspector is responsible for overseeing the safety and regulation of active and inactive mines in the state of Arizona in the United States. It is an independent, constitutionally-mandated office, elected to a four-year term. Arizona is the only state which fills this position through direct election. Arizona has 600 working mines and an estimated 120,000 abandoned mines. As of 2013, the state had 4 mine inspectors. Arizona House Representative Randall Friese introduced a bill in 2016 to change the position from elected to appointed. The bill failed to move out of committee. In 2007, former inspector Douglas K. Paul Marsh (politician)
Paul Marsh is an American mining executive and politician who is serving as the 12th Arizona State Mine Inspector. Governor Doug Ducey appointed Marsh to the position in October 2021, upon the resignation of Joe Hart. A member of the Republican Party, Marsh ran for a full term in the 2022 general election. On November 8, 2022, Marsh won the Mine Inspector election unopposed. Randall Friese
Randall Scott Friese (born ) is an American surgeon and politician from the state of Arizona. A member of the Democratic Party, Friese served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2015 through 2021, when he resigned to focus on his medical career. Education Friese earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1986. He received a medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1990 and a Master of Science in clinical sciences from the University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School in 2008. Career From 1997 to 2001, Friese served in the United States Navy's Medical Corps. He left the service as a lieutenant commander. Joe Hart (May 8, 1944 – September 11, 2022) was an American politician who served as the 11th State Mine Inspector of Arizona (2007–2021) and as a Member of the Arizona House of Representatives representing Arizona's 2nd Legislative District (1992–2001). He was a member of the Republican Party. Education and career Hart attended Fullerton Junior College and Mohave Community College.
