Arena Omsk
The Arena Omsk was a 10,318-seat multi-purpose arena in Omsk, Russia. It opened in 2007, replacing Sports-Concerts Complex Viktora Blinova as the home of Kontinental Hockey League ice hockey team, Avangard Omsk. Construction and opening After the arena was designed by Austrian company AMR the construction began on March 16, 2004. On August 31, 2007, the first ice hockey game was played as a part of the 2007 Super Series, a junior hockey challenge between Canada and Russia. The original owner of the arena was Roman Abramovich, however in 2012 he donated it to Avangard Omsk. In 2018, the arena was found to be structurally deficient, and had to be demolished. The demolition is completed in September 2019. A new arena will be built at its place and is planning to open in September 2022 for the opening of the KHL 2022–23 season. Omsk (; rus, Омск, p=omsk) is the administrative center and largest city of Omsk Oblast, Russia. It is situated in southwestern Siberia, and has a population of over 1.1 million. Omsk is the third largest city in Siberia after Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk, and the twelfth-largest city in Russia. Blinov Sports and Concerts Complex (Russian: Спортивно-концертный комплекс им. Виктора Блинова short form: СКК "Блинова" previous name: СКК "Иртыш") is an indoor sporting arena located in Omsk, Russia. The capacity of the arena is 5,500. It was the home arena of the Avangard Omsk ice hockey team since 1987 till 2007. Today it is a home arena of women's volleyball club Omichka and Avangard affiliated MHL-B team Yastreby Omsk. The construction began back in the 70s, but later was postponed and frozen for several years. The complex was finished only in 1986 and hosted the first hockey games in February 1987. 2011–12 KHL Season
The 2011–12 KHL season was the fourth season of the Kontinental Hockey League. The regular season began with the Opening Cup game on 7 September 2011, but because of the 2011 Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash, which occurred during the first period of the Cup game and killed all but one member of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team, further play was delayed until 12 September 2011. The tragedy forced Lokomotiv Yaroslavl to cancel their participation in the KHL season. The Opening Cup was renamed the Lokomotiv Cup in honor of those lost in the tragedy. The regular season ended on 26 February 2012 and the following playoffs ended on 25 April. The Gagarin Cup was won by Dynamo Moscow, defeating Avangard Omsk in a seven-game final series. The Junior Club World Cup (JCWC) (russian: Кубок Мира среди молодежных клубных команд, Kubok Mira sredi molodezhnykh klubnykh komand) is an international junior ice hockey tournament sanctioned by IIHF. The first edition of the tournament took place between 30 August 2011 and 3 September 2011 in Omsk. It featured 8 teams from 8 countries. History The first Junior Club World Cup took place in Omsk, Russia, in 2011. The first tournament was won by the Minor Hockey League's Krasnaya Armiya. They defeated Energie Karlovy Vary 7–2 in the final game. In the second tournament, in 2012, Hockey Canada and USA Hockey both sent a higher calibre of representatives to the event. It is a member of the Chernyshev Division in the Eastern Conference of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Franchise history Early years of Omsk hockey (1950–1972) The first amateur ice hockey teams in Omsk began to appear in 1950, formed by local bandy players. One of them was a hockey section of the Omsk Spartak sports society. Spartak Omsk was chosen to be the first Omsk hockey team in the 1950–51 RSFSR championship.
