Ard Schenk Award
The AEGON Ard Schenk Award is a Dutch speedskating award, instated in 1990, named after famous Dutch speedskater Ard Schenk. Initially it was an award for the best speed skater, the marathon included. Since 2002 it is only for long track speed skating. Since 2003, the best skating teams are awarded as well. Kai Verbij
Kai Verbij (born 25 September 1994) is a Dutch speed skater who is specialized in the sprint distances. His mother is Japanese, while his father is Dutch. Career Together with Ronald Mulder and Stefan Groothuis, Verbij won the team sprint event at the 2015–16 ISU Speed Skating World Cup event in Calgary on 14 November 2015. Kjeld Nuis
Kjeld Nuis (; born in Leiden 10 November 1989) is a Dutch speed skater. Nuis specializes over the middle distances of 1000 and 1500 meters. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, he won the gold medal at the 1500 m and 1000 m events. At the 2022 Winter Olympics he successfully defended his title on the 1500 m. He is the current holder of the world record over 1500 meters. Career Nuis is a three-time Olympic champion, having won Olympic gold in both the 1000 and 1500 meters at the 2018 Winter Olympics. He won another gold in the 1500 meters four years later, improving Derek Parra's twenty year old Olympic Record to 1:43:21 in the process. Jorien Ter Mors
Jorien ter Mors (; born 21 December 1989) is a retired Dutch speed skater on both short track and long track. She was the Olympic champion in the 1500 metres and team pursuit (long track) at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 1000 metres at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Short track Ter Mors competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics for the Netherlands. She placed third in her round one race of the 500 metres and was disqualified in the opening round of the 1000 metres, failing to advance. She was also a member of the Dutch 3000 metre relay team, which finished third in the semifinals and won the B Final, ending up fourth overall. Her best overall individual finish, is 23rd, in the 500 metres. Michel Mulder
Michel Mulder (born 27 February 1986) is a Dutch speed skater. He is the 2014 Olympic Champion at the 500 m distance and 2014 Olympic bronze medalist at the 1,000 m distance. He finished second in the men's 500 metres event at the 2012 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships. His twin brother, Ronald Mulder, is also a speed skater. Despite being the defending champion for the 500m distance at the Olympic Games, Michel did not qualify for the 2018 Olympics. His twin brother competed in the event and finished in 7th place. Stefan Groothuis
Stefan Groothuis (born 23 November 1981) is a Dutch retired speed skater. He is the World Sprint Champion for 2012 and the gold medal winner in the 1000 metres at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Career Groothuis, a specialist in the middle distances (1000 and 1500 metres), had his international breakthrough in 2005. In that year he reached a second spot during the Speed Skating World Cup meeting in Salt Lake City competing in the 1000 metres. This earned him a nomination for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. During the Dutch Single Distance Championships in December 2005, he switched this nomination into a qualification by placing fourth behind Jan Bos, Erben Wennemars, and Beorn Nijenhuis, who all qualified as well. Margot Boer
Margot Madelaine Boer (born 7 August 1985) is a Dutch former speed skater. She specialised in the 500, 1000 and 1500 m. Sports career After spending a few years at local teams in the South Holland area, Boer was seen as one of the Netherlands main future talents and was offered a contract at the KNSB youth development team for the 2006–07 season. In the years before she already participated in several World Cup meetings. Her first success in her new team was winning a gold medal in the 500 m at the 2007 KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships. She won both races beating all the opponents, including favourites such as Marianne Timmer and Annette Gerritsen. 2010 Winter Olympics Boer qualified to participate in all of her specialty distances at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Paulien Van Deutekom
Paulien van Deutekom (4 February 1981 – 2 January 2019) was a Dutch champion speed skater who specialised in the middle to long distances, over 1000 and 1500 metres. Biography In November 2005, Van Deutekom surprised when she skated among the best at the Speed Skating World Cup qualification tournament at several distances and as a result qualified for those World Cups. During her first ever World Cup event in the Olympic Oval in Calgary she skated a new Dutch record over 1500 metres, with a time of 1:55.43, overtaking the previous record by Annamarie Thomas. Her record was broken a week later by Ireen Wüst with a time of 1:54.93. Ireen Wüst
Irene Karlijn (Ireen) Wüst (; born 1 April 1986) is a Dutch former long track speed skater. Wüst became the most successful speed skating olympian ever by achieving at least one gold medal in each of five consecutive Winter Olympic appearances and is the only athlete to win an individual gold medal in five consecutive Olympics, Summer or Winter. Wüst is both the youngest Dutch Olympic gold medalist and the oldest speed skating gold medalist in the history of the Winter Games. Sven Kramer (; born 23 April 1986) is a retired Dutch long track speed skater who has won an all time record nine World Allround Championships as well as a record ten European Allround Championships. He is the Olympic champion of the 5000 meters at the Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics, and won a record 21 gold medals at the World Single Distance Championships; eight in the 5000 meters, five in the 10,000 meters, and eight in the team pursuit.
