Ireen Wüst
Irene Karlijn (Ireen) Wüst (; born 1 April 1986) is a Dutch former long track speed skater. Wüst became the most successful speed skating olympian ever by achieving at least one gold medal in each of five consecutive Winter Olympic appearances and is the only athlete to win an individual gold medal in five consecutive Olympics, Summer or Winter. Wüst is both the youngest Dutch Olympic gold medalist and the oldest speed skating gold medalist in the history of the Winter Games. At the age of nineteen, on 12 February 2006, she won the gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games 3000 metre event; four years later at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games she won the 1500 metre event; at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games she won two gold and three silver medals, making her the most decorated athlete at the Sochi Games. Speed Skating At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Women's 1500 Metres
The women's 1500 m competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 7 February, at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing. Ireen Wüst of the Netherlands won the distance. She set a new Olympic record and won her sixth Olympic gold medal, thereby becoming the first person to win individual gold medals at five different Olympics. Miho Takagi of Japan won silver, and Antoinette de Jong of the Netherlands bronze. The defending champion was Wüst, who was also the 2010 champion, the 2014 silver medalist, and the 2018 champion. The world record holder, Takagi, was also competing. The bronze medalist, Marrit Leenstra, retired from competitions. 2014 World Allround Speed Skating Championships
The 2014 World Allround Speed Skating Championships took place at the indoor ice rink of the Thialf arena in Heerenveen, Netherlands, on 22–23 March 2014. Ireen Wüst won the women's title for the fifth time while Koen Verweij won his first world title. Rules All 24 participating skaters are allowed to skate the first three distances; 8 skaters may take part on the fourth distance. 2007 World Allround Speed Skating Championships
The 2007 World Allround Speed Skating Championships were held in the indoor arena Thialf in Heerenveen, Netherlands on 9–11 February 2007. The Championships were three-day allround events, with the skaters completing four distances before the final championship standings are determined based on the samalog system. World Allround Speed Skating Championships
The World Allround Speed Skating Championships are a series of speed skating events held annually to determine the best allround speed skater of the world. The event is held over two days, with all skaters entering the first three distances (500 m, 3000 m and 1500 m for women; 500 m, 5000 m and 1500 m for men) and the best eight skaters over these distances getting to ride the last event (5000 m for women; 10 000 m for men). The results of the races are converted to points, and the skater with lowest total score wins the championship. The women's team pursuit competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 12 February (semifinals) and 15 February (final), at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing. Ivanie Blondin, Valérie Maltais, and Isabelle Weidemann, representing Canada, won the event, setting an Olympic record in Final A. This was the first gold medal for Canada in this event and the first Canadian medal since 2006. Ayano Sato, Miho Takagi, and Nana Takagi of Japan set an Olympic record in the semifinals and eventually won the silver medal. Speed Skating At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Women's 3000 Metres
The women's 3000 metres speed skating competition of the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at Gangneung Oval in Gangneung on 10 February 2018. Summary Competitors included reigning 2014 champion Ireen Wüst (also the 2006 gold medallist), 2010 champion Martina Sáblíková (also the 2014 silver medallist), and 2002 victor Claudia Pechstein. The 2014 bronze medallist Olga Graf qualified for the event but decided not to compete. Skating in the 5th pair, Carlijn Achtereekte posted the then-fastest time and remained in the gold medal position throughout the event. In the 9th pair Ireen Wüst held a lead over Achtereekte's time for most of her race, but ultimately finished 0.08 seconds behind to take second place.
