Archie Robertson (footballer)
Archibald Clark Robertson (15 September 1929 – 28 January 1978) was a Scottish footballer who spent most of his career with Clyde, firstly as an inside right and latterly as manager. Playing career Club Robertson joined Clyde from Junior side Rutherglen Glencairn in 1947, on a part-time basis as he continued his studies towards a degree in chemistry. He spent the next 14 seasons with the ''Bully Wee'', during which time he experienced relegation on three occasions, although he also helped the side win the Division Two title twice, in 1951–52 and 1956–57. Robertson also enjoyed success with Clyde in the Scottish Cup. In the 1955 final he scored Clyde's equalising goal direct from a corner kick in the 88th minute, forcing a 1–1 draw with Celtic. Clyde went on to win the replay 1–0 with a goal by Tommy Ring. He also played in the 1958 Cup final when Clyde defeated Hibernian 1–0. Busby, East Renfrewshire
Busby is a village in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. Busby is in the same urban area as Glasgow, although it is administratively separate. It lies on the White Cart Water south of Glasgow City Centre and northwest of the outskirts of East Kilbride. David White (football Manager)
David White (23 August 1933 – 17 July 2013) was a Scottish football player and manager. He played as a wing half for Clyde for his whole career, before managing Clyde, Rangers and Dundee. Playing career White was 23 years of age when he joined Clyde from the Junior side Royal Albert. While also working as an engineer, he played more than 300 games for the Bully Wee and became club captain and acted as player-coach. Managerial career He was promoted to Clyde manager after the Scottish Football Association appointed his predecessor John Prentice as the Scotland national team manager. After a year managing the ''Bully Wee'' (which ended in their highest-ever finish of 3rd place in 1966–67), he was appointed as assistant to Scot Symon at Rangers in summer 1967. The Scottish Football League (SFL) was a league featuring professional and semi-professional football clubs mostly from Scotland.One club, Berwick Rangers, is based in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is located approximately 4 km south of the Anglo-Scottish border. 1958 FIFA World Cup
The 1958 FIFA World Cup was the sixth FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Sweden from 8 to 29 June 1958. It was the first FIFA World Cup to be played in a Nordic country. Brazil beat Sweden 5–2 in the final in the Stockholm suburb of Solna to claim their first title. The tournament also marked the arrival of a then 17-year-old Pelé on the world stage. This was the first appearance of Wales at the FIFA World Cup and they would not qualify for another until 64 years later. There were also debut appearances for Northern Ireland and the Soviet Union. Harry Haddock
Henry Haddock (26 July 1925 – 18 December 1998) was a Scottish footballer who played as a left back and spent almost his entire career with Clyde. He was also selected in the Scotland squad for the 1958 FIFA World Cup. He was renowned for his long throw in ability. Club career Haddock was born in Glasgow and began his senior career at Exeter City while with the RAF during World War II, stationed in the Midlands. Haddock also appeared for Renfrew Juniors. He joined Clyde in September 1949 (though a serious injury almost ended his career before it began) and became a reliable fixture in the side over the following 13 seasons, latterly as captain. He enjoyed his fair share of ups and downs during this period: the ''Bully Wee'' were relegated in 1950–51, 1955–56 and 1960–61 although they enjoyed an instant return as Second Division champions on each occasion. Allan McGraw
Allan McGraw (29 July 1939 – 1 March 2023) was a Scottish football player and manager, most associated with Greenock Morton. Playing career McGraw started his playing career with Greenock Morton. Playing in Division Two he set a Scottish record for most goals scored in a season. He finished as Morton's top goalscorer in five consecutive seasons, and appeared in the 1963 League Cup final. He helped the club to promotion to the top flight in 1964, having scored a record 61 goals in 52 appearances that season. It was the first time Morton had played at that level since 1952, but two seasons later the Ton were relegated back to the Second Division. Following that relegation, Morton sold McGraw to Hibernian for £15,000 (£ today). He scored eight goals in his first 11 appearances for Hibs, including wins against Hearts and Rangers.
