Arcangelo Guglielmelli
Arcangelo Guglielmelli (1723) was an Italian architect and painter, active in his native Naples, Italy, in a late-Baroque style. He was involved in the building and reconstruction of churches, many of which had been damaged by the earthquakes of 1688 and 1694. Biography He was born to Marcello Guglielmelli and Caterina Vera, but grew up in the house of a painter, Onofrio de Marino, whose daughter he married in March 1677. His two sons were Marcello, also an architect who worked with his father, and Gaetano, who became a novice at Santa Maria della Vita. Early in his career, Arcangelo helped design ephemeral decorations for the frequent festivals held in Naples, such as in 1671 for the festival of San Gennaro, and 1677 for the festival of Quarantore, held by the Theatines of San Paolo Maggiore. Santa Maria Delle Grazie A Mondragone, Naples
Santa Maria delle Grazie a Mondragone is a small now-deconsecrated Roman Catholic church building on Piazzeta Mondragone in central Naples, Italy. History In 1653, a church and an adjacent retirement home for noble widows, were commissioned here by Princess Elena Aldobrandini (1580-1663), wife of Duke of Mondragone. The buildings were damaged during the earthquake of 1688 and 1732, and various reconstructions followed, using plans by Arcangelo Guglielmelli (1648-1723), who received his commission in 1715. Guglielmelli is known for his centralized design of the church of Santa Maria del Rosario alle Pigne near Piazza Cavour in central Naples. The work was completed, including interior decoration by Giovanni Battista Nauclerio (1666-1739) after Guglielmelli's death. Francesco Solimena
Francesco Solimena (4 October 1657 – 3 April 1747) was a prolific Italian painter of the Baroque era, one of an established family of painters and draughtsmen. Biography Francesco Solimena was born in Canale di Serino in the province of Avellino. San Paolo Maggiore is a basilica church in Naples, southern Italy, and the burial place of Gaetano Thiene, known as Saint Cajetan, founder of the Order of Clerics Regular (or Theatines). San Giorgio Maggiore, Naples
San Giorgio Maggiore is a basilica church located on the corner of Via vicaria Vecchia and Via Duomo, in central Naples, Italy. The apse of the church lies diagonally across the street from San Severo al Pendino, Naples, San Severo al Pendino. A church at the site was built by the 4th century, and was initially known as "la severiana", after the bishop San Severo of Naples. The present name dates to the 9th century, and is dedicated to a martyred warrior in the battles against the Lombards. San Carlo all'Arena is a Roman Catholic church built in a Baroque-style layout with a Neoclassic façade, and located on via Foria in the quartiere or neighborhood of the San Carlo all'Arena, in the city of Naples, Italy. Santa Maria Donnalbina
Santa Maria Donnalbina is a church located on the street of the same name in Naples, Italy. A church at the site existed in the 9th century, but was reconstructed in the 17th century by Bartolomeo Picchiatti, and the Baroque style church underwent further reconstructions under Arcangelo Guglielmelli. The interior was heavily encrusted with stucco decorations (1701) by Antonio Guidetti, and the altar is made of polychrome marbles. The counterfacade has an organ from 1699. The ceiling was decorated with canvases by Nicola Malinconico, also the author of the paintings depicting the saints, as well as the fresco in the counter-facade.
