Bartholomeu de Gusmão State Airport is the airport serving Araraquara, Brazil. It is named after Bartolomeu Lourenço de Gusmão (1685-1724), a Portuguese priest born in Brazil, who did research about transportation with balloons. It is operated by Rede Voa. History On July 15, 2021 the concession of the airport was auctioned to Rede Voa, under the name Consórcio Voa NW e Voa SE. The airport was previously operated by DAESP. DAESP - Departamento Aeroviário do Estado de São Paulo ( en, Airways Department of São Paulo State) was the São Paulo state (in Brazil) aviation department. DAESP was part of the ''Secretaria de Transportes do Governo do Estado de São Paulo'' ( en, Transportation Secretariat of the State of São Paulo), and was responsible for the management of 21 public airports within the state, in accordance to directives from the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC). It was created in 1963 as ''Diretoria de Aeroportos'' ( en, Directorate of Airports) of the ''Secretaria de Viação e Obras Públicas'' ( en, Public Works and Transit Secretariat). Rede Voa, previously known as Voa São Paulo or Voa-SP in short, is a private Brazilian airports administration consortium, responsible for sixteen Brazilian regional and municipal airports administrative operations. On March 15, 2017 Voa São Paulo was granted the concession to operate five airports by the government of the State of São Paulo, previously operated by DAESP. Araraquara ( or ) is a city in the state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo in Brazil. The population is 250.314 (2022 est.) in an area of . Bartolomeu Lourenço de Gusmão (December 1685 – 18 November 1724) was a Brazilian-born Portuguese priest and naturalist, who was a pioneer of lighter-than-air airship design. Early life Gusmão was born at Santos, then part of the Portuguese colony of Brazil. He began his novitiate in the Society of Jesus at Bahia when he was about fifteen years old, but left the order in 1701. He went to Portugal and found a patron at Lisbon in the person of the Marquis of Abrantes. He completed his course of study at the University of Coimbra, devoting his attention principally to philology and mathematics, but received the title of Doctor of Canon Law (related to Theology). He is said to have had a remarkable memory and a great command of languages. DAFIF () or the ''Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File'' is a comprehensive database of up-to-date aeronautical data, including information on airports, airways, airspaces, navigation data, and other facts relevant to flying in the entire world, managed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) of the United States. Withdrawal of public access DAFIF was publicly available until October 2006 through the Internet; however, it was closed to public access because "increased numbers of foreign source providers are claiming intellectual property rights or are forewarning NGA that they intend to copyright their source".
