Araraquara ( or ) is a city in the state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo in Brazil. The population is 250.314 (2022 est.) in an area of . It is also known as "the abode of the sun," because of its impressive sunset and because of its hot atmosphere, especially in summer. The city was founded in 1817. History Etymology There are two possible origins for the name of the city, one that links it to the Tupi-Guarani language of the region's indigenous inhabitants, and one that relates it to the Língua Geral of São Paulo. Estádio Fonte Luminosa
Estádio Dr. Adhemar de Barros, usually known as Estádio Fonte Luminosa, or just Fonte Luminosa, is a football (soccer) stadium in Araraquara, Brazil. The stadium has a maximum capacity of 25,000. It was inaugurated in 1951. The stadium is owned by the Araraquara City Hall, and its formal name honors Adhemar Pereira de Barros, who was the governor of São Paulo state from 1938 to 1941, 1947 to 1951, and 1963 to 1966. Associação Ferroviária de Esportes usually plays their home matches at the stadium. ''Fonte Luminosa'' means ''Luminous Fountain''. Associação Ferroviária de Esportes, commonly referred to as simply Ferroviária, is a Brazilian association football club in Araraquara, São Paulo. They currently play in the Série D, the fourth tier of Brazilian football, as well as in the Campeonato Paulista, São Paulo's premier state league. Founded on April 12, 1950, Ferroviária is the only Araraquara club to reach the Campeonato Paulista first division. The club's best campaign in that competition was in 1959, when the club finished in the third position. It is also the only club of the city to have competed in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. Bartholomeu de Gusmão State Airport is the airport serving Araraquara, Brazil. It is named after Bartolomeu Lourenço de Gusmão (1685-1724), a Portuguese priest born in Brazil, who did research about transportation with balloons. It is operated by Rede Voa. Língua Geral Of São Paulo
The paulista general, also called southern general and tupi austral, is a lingua franca and creole language formed in the 16th century, in the Captaincy of São Vicente. Today it is only of historical interest, as it has been a dead language since the beginning of the 20th century. It constituted the southern branch of the general language. With influence on Brazilian toponymy, the Paulista language bequeathed many current Brazilian toponyms, such as: Aricanduva, Baquirivu-Guaçu, Batovi, Batuquara, Bicuíba, Biriricas, ''etc''.
