Arabesque (Sibel Can Album)
''Arabesque'' is the twenty first album by the Turkish singer Sibel Can. It was released on 22 April 2016 by DMC. Release and content Can said of the album, "I think there's an arabesque part that everyone's hiding in a corner of their heart. I grew up with full arabesque songs. I've always dreamed of performing those songs. When Tatlıses was singing them I would say to myself that I would definitely perform them myself as a female singer. There are also songs by Müslüm Gürses in the album." She also discussed the song "Gurbet Geceleri", originally performed by Bülent Ersoy, and said: "I cried while listening to that song from Bülent Ersoy." Sibel Can
Sibel Can (born Sibel Cangüre; 1 August 1970) is a Turkish folk pop and classical music singer. Sibel Can became a dancer at the age of 14 and later started her music career. She has been known as one of the most successful singers in Turkey. Early life Sibel Can was born in Karagümrük, Fatih, as the first child of Engin Cangüre and Emine Gül Sezer Cangüre. Her father was a Yugoslav immigrant and a violinist who accompanied many famous singers on their concerts. Her mother was from Mudanya. Career Career beginnings At the age of 14 she started her career as a belly dancer. She worked as both a belly dancer and a soloist with her father during their tours across Turkey. Arabesque (Turkish Music)
Arabesque ( tr, Arabesk) is a style of music created in Turkey. The genre was particularly popular in Turkey from the 1960s through the 2000s. Its aesthetics have evolved over the decades. Its melodies are influenced by espesically Arab Music, the music of Southeastern Europe and the Middle East, including bağlama music and Ottoman forms of oriental music. Arabesque music are mostly in a minor key, typically in the Phrygian mode, and themes tend to focus on longing, melancholy, strife and love issues. Description and history A very small percentage of Arabesque is exclusively instrumental. For the great majority of it, a singer lies at the center of the music. Male singers dominated the genre in its early years, but female singers probably predominated during its peak years of popularity. İbrahim Tatlıses (born İbrahim Tatlı in 1952) is a Turkish folk singer and former actor. Since the 1970s he has been one of the best-known and most successful singers of the pop '' Arabesk'' style. Müslüm Gürses (; 5 July 1953 – 3 March 2013), born Müslüm Akbaş and called Müslüm Baba (literally: ''Father'' ''Müslüm''), was a popular Turkish arabesque singer and actor. Personal life He was born on 7 May 1953 in an adobe hut in the Turkmen village of Fıstıközü in Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa Province, southeastern Turkey. His mother was Emine, his father Mehmet, a farmer. Müslüm was only three years old when the family migrated to Adana due to financial problems.
