Appoquinimink School District
The Appoquinimink School District is a public school district in southern New Castle County, Delaware. The district office is located in the Odessa Park Building, 313 South Fifth Street, in Odessa, Delaware, with Matthew Burrows as the current superintendent. Former superintendent Tony Marchio retired in June 2011. The district is growing by nearly 600 students every year, making it the fastest growing school district in Delaware. New Castle County, Delaware
New Castle County is the northernmost of the three counties of the U.S. state of Delaware (New Castle, Kent, and Sussex). As of the 2020 census, the population was 570,719, making it the most populous county in Delaware, with nearly 60% of the state's population of 989,948. Odessa, Delaware
Odessa is a town in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. The population was 364 at the 2010 census. Founded as Cantwell's Bridge in the 18th century, the name was changed in the 19th century, after the Ukrainian port city of the same name. Today a significant part of the town is a historic district list on the National Register of Historic Places. History Odessa was originally known as Cantwell's Bridge. In 1721, a son of Captain Edmund Cantwell opened a toll bridge over the Appoquinimink Creek at this location. Cantwell's Bridge became an important port that shipped wheat, corn, tobacco, and produce down the creek to the Delaware Bay, where it traveled to distant ports. The town was also home to tanneries that produced leather goods. Cantwell's Bridge would continue to prosper as an agricultural port into the 19th century. Townsend is a town in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. The population was 2,049 at the 2010 census, an increase of 492.2% from 2000. The center of population of Delaware is located in Townsend. Geography Townsend is located at (39.3951115, –75.6915973). Its primary business was selling agricultural produce via the Delaware Railroad. Appoquinimink High School
Appoquinimink High School (AHS) is a public high school in Middletown, Delaware. It is a part of the Appoquinimink School District. Construction of the two-story building began in 2006 See clippingfrom Newspapers.com and ninth grade students were housed in the former Alfred G. Waters School building for the duration of the construction. Felecia Duggins was selected as school principal in May 2007 and the campus' stadium and 1,067-seat fieldhouse opened that fall. Redding middle schools the choice between the jaguars, pirates, and titans for the new high school's mascot; the most popular choice was the jaguar. Odessa High School is a public high school in unincorporated New Castle County, Delaware. It has a Townsend postal address, while its name refers to nearby Odessa. It is a part of the Appoquinimink School District. The ducks are the mascot. It is a part of the Fairview K-12 Campus, which is on a former corn field and also includes the Old State Elementary School and Spring Meadow Early Childhood Center. It is headquartered in unincorporated New Castle County, Delaware, near New Castle, and is owned by Gannett. History The ancestry of the News Journal reflects the mergers of several newspapers. It is dated to Oct. 1, 1866 when Howard M. Jenkins and Wilmer Atkinson started the afternoon publication ''Daily Commercial''.
