Anum is an Guan community in Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region of Ghana, across from the Volta Lake. Location Anum lies about a kilometre east of the Volta Lake. The nearest town to the north is Boso, Ghana, also in the Eastern Region. Further north across the border into the Volta Region lies Kpalime Duga in the South Dayi District. The Regions of Ghana constitute the first level of subnational government administration within the Republic of Ghana. The Eastern Region is located in south Ghana and is one of the sixteen administrative regions of Ghana. Districts Of Ghana
The Districts of Ghana are second-level administrative subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of region. There are 261 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). History The districts of Ghana were re-organized in 1988/1989 in an attempt to decentralize the government and to assist in development. The reform of the late 1980s subdivided the regions of Ghana into 110 districts, where local district assemblies should deal with the local administration. By 2006, an additional 28 districts were created by splitting some of the original 110, bringing their number up to 138. In February 2008, there were more districts created and some were upgraded to municipal status. This brought the final number to 170 districts in Ghana. Asuogyaman District
Asuogyaman District is one of the thirty-three districts in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988, which it was created from the former Kaoga District Council. The district assembly is located in the eastern part of Eastern Region and has Atimpoku as its capital town. Akosombo Dam Asuogyaman District is the location of a hydroelectric dam in South Ghana, the Akosombo Dam, in the town of Akosombo. Guan People
The Guan people are an ethnic group found almost in all parts of Ghana, including the Nkonya tribe, the Gonja, Anum, Larteh, Nawuri and Ntsumburu. They primarily speak the Guan languages of the Niger-Congo language family. They make up 3.7% of the population of Ghana. Guans are believed to be the first settlers in the modern day Ghana that migrated from the Mossi region of modern Burkina around 1000 A.D. Volta Lake
Lake Volta, the largest artificial reservoir in the world based on surface area, is contained behind the Akosombo Dam which generates a substantial amount of Ghana's electricity. Volta Region
Volta Region (or Volta) is one of Ghana's sixteen administrative regions, with Ho designated as its capital. It is located west of Republic of Togo and to the east of Lake Volta. Kpalime Duga
Kpalime Duga is a village located in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region of Ghana. Location The nearest towns to Duga include To Kpalime to the north. This is also one of the towns in the Kpalime Traditional Area. To the east are the Peki villages of Blengo and Avetile, as well as Tongor-Kaira. To the north east is Tsate Kpalime. The southern neighbours of Duga are Peki Dzake and as well as the Asuogyaman District towns of Anum and Boso. History The people of the Kpalime Traditional Area are believed to have migrated to their present locations from Notsie in Togo. This was to escape the tyranny of Togbe Agorkorli, the king of Notsie.
