Antonio Giusti
Antonio Giusti (1624–1705) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active mainly in Florence. He was a pupil of the painters Cesare Dandini and Mario Balassi. Baroque
The Baroque (, ; ) is a style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture, poetry, and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th century until the 1750s. In the territories of the Spanish and Portuguese empires including the Iberian Peninsula it continued, together with new styles, until the first decade of the 19th century. It followed Renaissance art and Mannerism and preceded the Rococo (in the past often referred to as "late Baroque") and Neoclassical styles. Cesare Dandini
Cesare Dandini (1 October 1596– 7 February 1657) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active mainly in his native city of Florence. Biography He was the older brother of the painter Vincenzo Dandini (1609–1675). His nephew, Pietro was a pupil of Vincenzo, and Pietro's two sons, Ottaviano Dandini and the Jesuit priest Vincenzo also worked as painters in Florence. According to the biographer Baldinucci, Cesare first worked under Francesco Curradi, then Cristofano Allori, and finally Domenico Passignano. He enrolled in 1621 in the Accademia del Disegno. His style has the polish and attention to draughtsmanship and design characteristic of Florentines like Carlo Dolci. Mario Balassi
Mario Balassi (1604–1667) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active in Florence and Rome. Biography He was born in Florence in 1604, and dedicated himself from a young age to artistic education, first as an apprentice to Jacopo Ligozzi, a Veronese artist active in Florence. When this master died, he passed to the school of Matteo Rosselli, where he remained until the age of 18 years. Finally he became a pupil of Domenico Passignano, and accompanied this master as his collaborator to Rome to work under the papacy of Pope Urban VIII. Luigi Lanzi (14 June 1732 – 30 March 1810) was an Italian art historian and archaeologist. When he died he was buried in the church of the Santa Croce at Florence by the side of Michelangelo. Biography Born in Treia, Lanzi was educated as a priest. He entered the Order of the Jesuits, resided at Rome and in 1773 was appointed keeper of the galleries of Florence, where he became president of the Accademia della Crusca. He thereafter studied Italian painting and Etruscan antiquities and language. In the one field his labors are represented by his ''Storia Pittorica dell' Italia'', the first portion of which, containing the Florentine, Sienese, Roman and Neapolitan schools, appeared in 1792, the rest in 1796.
