Anton Emil Titl
Anton Emil Titl (2 October 1809 – 21 January 1882) was an Austrian composer and conductor. In Vienna he was ''Kapellmeister'' at the Theater in der Josefstadt and later at the Hofburgtheater. Life Titl was born in Nedvědice in Moravia, at that time part of the Austrian Empire; it is the location of Pernštejn Castle, where his father served as burgrave for Count Wilhelm Mitrovský. After his father's death when he was 14, the Count sent him to Frankstadt (now Nový Malín) to be trained as a teacher. Franz Grillparzer
Franz Seraphicus Grillparzer (15 January 1791 – 21 January 1872) was an Austrian writer who was considered to be the leading Austrian dramatist of the 19th century. His plays were and are frequently performed at the famous Burgtheater in Vienna. He also wrote the oration for Ludwig van Beethoven's funeral, as well as the epitaph for his friend Franz Schubert. While writing during the period of Romanticism, Grillparzer's poetic language owes far more to the period of Classicism which reigned during his formative years. Committed to the classical ideals of aesthetic beauty and morality, his plots shy away from the realism which developed during his time, preferring instead to use the theater to address spiritual values, which in the words of the dying queen of his Libussa, would only come after the period of Materialism had passed. ''Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie'' (ADB, german: Universal German Biography) is one of the most important and comprehensive biographical reference works in the German language. It was published by the Historical Commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences between 1875 and 1912 in 56 volumes, printed in Leipzig by Duncker & Humblot. The ADB contains biographies of about 26,500 people who died before 1900 and lived in the German language Sprachraum of their time, including people from the Netherlands before 1648. Its successor, the '' Neue Deutsche Biographie'', was started in 1953 and is planned to be finished in 2023. Franz Xaver Told
Franz Xaver Told (from 1840 Franz Xaver Told von Doldenburg; 13 December 1792 – 14 April 1849) was an Austrian soldier, and a prolific dramatist. His plays were staged at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna. Life Soldier and writer Told, whose father came from the Tyrol, was born in Vienna and was educated in Innsbruck. He joined the Austrian army in 1809; in 1813 he took part in the Battle of Leipzig and the Battle of Hanau. He was promoted to ''Leutnant'' in 1827 and ''Oberleutnant'' in 1835, and in 1840 he was ennobled with the title "von Doldenburg". His regiment was stationed in Vienna and he probably continued to serve in the army as his literary career started, but later he retired, becoming a titular captain. Franz Pokorny (22 December 1797 – 5 August 1850) was an Austrian theatre manager. He owned two leading theatres in Vienna, the Theater in der Josefstadt and the Theater an der Wien, where he staged notable productions. Life Early career Pokorny was born in (now in the Czech Republic), son of a teacher. He was initially a school assistant. In 1819 he moved to Vienna, where he was a clarinettist at the Theater in der Josefstadt. Heinrich Proch
Heinrich Proch (22 July 1809 – 18 December 1878) was an Austrian composer. Born in Vienna, Proch studied jurisprudence and completed his training as a violinist in his native city. From 1834 to 1867, he was a member of the Vienna Hofkapelle. He was also ''Kapellmeister'' at the Theater in der Josefstadt between 1837 and 1840, after which he became First Kapellmeister at the Theater am Kärntnertor, the predecessor of the Vienna State Opera. Besides his conducting duties, Proch also worked as a singing teacher. He composed one opera (''Ring und Maske''), three operettas, incidental music, orchestral works, and chamber music, as well as over 200 ''lieder,'' and won further distinction for his translations of Italian operas (e.g., Verdi's '' Il trovatore'', Donizetti's '' Don Pasquale'').
