Antoine Rocheleau
Antoine Rocheleau (October 4, 1836 – April 28, 1901) was a farmer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Chambly in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1886 to 1892 and from 1897 to 1900 as a Liberal. He was born in Chambly, Lower Canada The Province of Lower Canada (french: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). It covered the southern portion of the current Province of Quebec an ..., the son of Antoine Rocheleau and Françoise Brais, dit Labonté, and was educated at the Collège de Chambly. Rocheleau's farm was located at Saint-Hubert. He was defeated when he ran for reelection in 1892. Rocheleau was married twice: to Onésime Sainte-Marie in 1856 and to Alphonsine Morin in 1895. Chambly (provincial Electoral District)
Chambly is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. It includes the city of Chambly and other smaller municipalities. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, ''speaker''. The Province of Lower Canada (french: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). It covered the southern portion of the current Province of Quebec and the Labrador region of the current Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (until the Labrador region was transferred to Newfoundland in 1809).
