Anti-Drug National Command
The Anti-Drug National Command is an operating unit of the Venezuelan National Guard that is tasked with preventing illegal drug trade within Venezuela. The unit is headed by General Arturo Olivar. History Univision has described the unit as a "low-profile" component of the National Guard. General Ramón Guillén Dávila, a commanding general of the Anti-Drug National Command was accused of drug trafficking in the 1990s. Venezuelan National Guard
The Bolivarian National Guard of Venezuela ( es, Guardia Nacional Bolivariana de Venezuela - GNB), is one of the four components of the National Armed Forces of Venezuela. The national guard can serve as gendarmerie, perform civil defense roles, or serve as a reserve light infantry force. The national guard was founded on 4 August 1937 by the then President of the Republic, General-in-Chief Eleazar López Contreras. The motto of the GNB is ''"El Honor es su divisa"'' ("Honor is its emblem"), slightly different from the motto of the Spanish Civil Guard ''"El Honor es mi divisa"'' ("Honor is my emblem"). El Paso Intelligence Center
The El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) was established in 1974 in response to a study by the Justice Management Division of the U.S. Department of Justice entitled, "A Secure Border." Recommendation number 7 of this study suggested the establishment of a southwest border intelligence center to be led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and staffed by representatives of that agency, as well as the U.S. Customs Service. The initial focus of the Center was to assist in the identification of drug traffickers and alien traffickers along the U.S.-Mexico border. EPIC is now staffed with over 300 personnel and liaison officers from 15 agencies. Corruption In Venezuela
The level of corruption in Venezuela is very high by world standards and is prevalent throughout many levels of Venezuelan society. Discovery of oil in Venezuela in the early 20th century has worsened political corruption. The large amount of corruption and mismanagement in the country has resulted in severe economic difficulties, part of the crisis in Bolivarian Venezuela. According to Transparency International's 2021 Corruption Perception Index, Venezuela scored a 14 on a scale from 0 ("highly corrupt") to 100 ("highly clean").
