Anne Jardin
Anne Elizabeth Jardin (born July 26, 1959), later known by her married name Anne Alexander, is a Canadian former competition swimmer who won two bronze medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics in her hometown of Montreal. She finished third in the women's 4x100-metre freestyle relay, alongside Becky Smith, Gail Amundrud and Barbara Clark, and also ended up in third place in the 4x100 medley relay, with Wendy Cook, Robin Corsiglia and Susan Sloan. She broke the world record in the 50-metre freestyle on August 19, 1978, in Etobicoke, Ontario. Jardin is currently a physical education teacher, as well as a Student Success teacher at Frank Ryan Senior Elementary School in Ottawa, Ontario. Her niece, Barbara Jardin, is a swimmer who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. World Record Progression 50 Metres Freestyle
The first world record in the men's 50 metres freestyle in long course (50 metres) swimming was recognized by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in 1976. In the short course (25 metres) swimming events the world's governing body recognizes world records since March 3, 1991. The drop in world record times in the 2008/2009 coincided with the introduction of polyurethane suits from Speedo ( LZR, 50% polyurethane) in 2008 and by Arena ( X-Glide), Adidas (Hydrofoil) and Italian swimming suit manufacturer Jaked (all 100% polyurethane) in 2009. FINA's ban on non-textile suit came into effect in January 2010. Barbara Jardin
Barbara Jardin (born October 22, 1991) is a Canadian competitive swimmer, who lives in Montreal. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she finished 6th overall in the heats in the women's 200-metre freestyle, and narrowly missed qualifying for the finals in her semifinal, finishing 10th overall. She was also a member of the Canadian team that finished fourth in the final of the women's 4x200-metre freestyle relay. Jardin is a niece of Anne Jardin-Alexander, who won two bronze medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics. She took up swimming at the age of four, and belonged to the Cote des Neiges swimming club. In 2010, she competed in the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, Commonwealth Games and World Championships. Susan Sloan
Susan Estelle Sloan (born April 5, 1958), later known by her married name Susan Kelsey, is a former Canadian competitive swimmer. Sloan won a bronze medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, by swimming the butterfly leg for the third-place Canadian team in the women's 4x100-metre medley relay, together with teammates Wendy Hogg (backstroke), Robin Corsiglia (breaststroke), and Anne Jardin (freestyle). At the 1978 World Championships in Berlin, she and her Canadian teammates won a bronze medal in the 4x100-metre freestyle relay. Robin Corsiglia
Robin Marie Corsiglia (born August 12, 1962), later known by her married name Robin Scholefield, is a former competitive swimmer from Canada. She represented Canada as a 13 year old at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec. Corsiglia won a bronze medal swimming the breaststroke leg of the women's 4x100-metre medley relay, together with her Canadian teammates Wendy Hogg (backstroke), Susan Sloan (butterfly), and Anne Jardin (freestyle). Individually, she also competed in the women's 100-metre breaststroke, finishing fourth in the event final. Wendy Cook
Wendy Elizabeth Hogg née Wendy Cook (born September 15, 1956) is a female retired Canadian swimmer. Swimming career She competed in backstroke and medley relay events at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics and won a bronze medal in the relay in 1976; in the individual 100 m backstroke she placed fourth in 1976 and fifth in 1972. At the 1973 World Championships she won a bronze medal in the 100 m backstroke and placed fifth in the medley relay. At the 1974 Commonwealth Games, she won gold medals in the 100 and 200 m backstroke and in the medley relay, setting a world record in the 100 m backstroke; she finished fourth in the 400 m individual medley.
