Anna Kyriakou
Anna Kyriakou ( Greek: Άννα Κυριακού; born 17 January 1929) is a Greek actress, known for playing the role of Soul in 1964 film '' Zorba the Greek.'' Life and career Kyriakou was born in Athens on January 17, 1929. She studied at the Dramatic School of the National Theater, as well as at the Charles Dullin School in Paris, with Jean Vilar as her teacher. She made her first theatrical appearance as a teenager at the REX Theater with the Marikas Kotopoulis troupe in the play "''Carmen''" and collaborated with Manolidou-Pappa, Vassilis Logothetidis, Katerinas, Manos Katrakis etc. In 1953, she collaborated with Dimitris Myrat's troupe. Returning from Paris, she collaborated in leading roles with the troupes of Iliopoulos, Fotopoulos and Alexandrakis. The National Theatre of Greece () is based in Athens, Greece. History The first permanent theatre in modern Greece had been the Boukoura Theatre from 1840, but it had difficulty in managing its operation and stood empty for long periods of time. The National Theatre of Greece was decided to be founded in 1880, with a grant from King George I and Efstratios Rallis to give theatre a permanent home in Athens. The foundations for this new project were laid on Agiou Konstantinou Street and the building itself was designed by the famous Saxonian architect noted for many other public buildings in Athens at the time, Ernst Ziller.
