Anjou–Louis-Riel
Anjou–Louis-Riel is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located in northern Montreal and consists of the entire Anjou borough of Montreal plus a part of the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. The riding was created in 1972 under the name Anjou. Lise Thériault
Lise Thériault (born January 7, 1966) is a former Canadian politician. She is a former Member of the National Assembly of Quebec representing the riding of Anjou–Louis-Riel in Montreal. She was the Deputy Premier of Quebec and Minister for the Status of Women in the Couillard government. Before entering politics, Thériault was for eight years a sales director and was also for nine years an editor and co-founder of ''l'Édition – Le Journal des Gens d'affaires''. She was an administration member of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Montreal, the CDEC Anjou/Montreal (a development organization) and the Collège Marie-Victorin. She was also a co-founder of a long-term care facility in Montreal. She was elected in Anjou in a by-election in 2002 and re-elected in 2003. She was named the Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities from 2005 to 2007 and was re-elected in the 2007 elections. Jeanne-Mance–Viger
Jeanne-Mance–Viger is a provincial electoral district in the Montreal region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It corresponds exactly to the territory of the Saint-Léonard borough of the city of Montreal. The current MNA is Filomenna Rotiroti who was first elected in 2008. It was created for the 2003 election from Jeanne-Mance and part of Viger and has remained a Liberal stronghold ever since. It is the safest Liberal electoral district in Montreal's east end. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, its territory was unchanged. It borders the electoral districts of Viau to west, Anjou-Louis Riel to the east and southeast, Rosemont to the southwest, and Bourassa-Sauve to the north. Anjou, Quebec
Anjou () is a borough (''arrondissement'') of the city of Montreal. Prior to its 2002 merger it was an independent city. Although it is no longer an independent city, it is still commonly known as known as ''Ville d'Anjou''. Geography The borough is located in the eastern end of the island of Montreal. The borough largely retained its former municipality logo, although the borough's logo is used on fleet vehicles without Montreal's logo. On fleet vehicles, the text reads "Ville de Montréal, arrondissement Anjou." The borough is bordered to the north and east by Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, to the south by Mercier—Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Montréal-Est, to the west by Saint Leonard, and at the northwestern corner by Montréal-Nord. Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve
Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is a borough of Montreal, Quebec, Canada located in the southeastern end of the island. History ''See Mercier and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve articles for a more detailed histories of respective areas'' Hochelaga was founded as a village in 1870, and annexed to Montreal in 1883. In response, dissatisfied landowners founded the village of Maisonneuve to the east. Maisonneuve grew rapidly and became known as ''the Pittsburgh of Canada'' for its heavy industry, before finally being annexed to Montreal in 1918. These factories hired many workers, including immigrants and people from the surrounding countryside. They worked in the shoe, textile, tanning, slaughterhouse, tobacco, food, and shipbuilding industries. In 1920, many factories closed and moved east to Mercier. René Serge Larouche (born February 27, 1944) is a former Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Anjou in the National Assembly of Quebec from 1988 to 1991. A marketing consultant, he was first elected as a Quebec Liberal Party MNA in a by-election on June 20, 1988, following the resignation of Pierre-Marc Johnson during the 33rd Quebec Legislature, defeating former Parti Québécois cabinet minister Pauline Marois. 2012 Quebec General Election
The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canadian province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. The Parti Québécois were elected to a minority government, with Pauline Marois becoming the first woman to be Premier of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party took second place, with Premier Jean Charest losing his seat. The newly formed party Coalition Avenir Québec led by François Legault took third place, while Québec solidaire took 2 seats out of the 125. It was the first time since 2007 (and only the third time in Quebec history) that a minority government would be formed, as no party won an absolute majority of the seats.
