Read Or Die
is a Japanese light novel series written by Hideyuki Kurata, published under Shueisha's ''Super Dash Bunko'' imprint. ''Read or Die'' follows Yomiko Readman, codename "The Paper", an agent for the (fictional) Special Operations Division of the British Library. There are currently 11 ''Read or Die'' novels. In volume 11, a note stated that the series would end with the upcoming volume 12. In June 2016, it was announced via Twitter that volume 12 would be released in August, and that there would be a volume 13. Along with the novels, Kurata scripted the official ''R.O.D'' manga illustrated by Shutaro Yamada, which was originally published in ''Ultra Jump'' magazine and later printed into four paperback volumes, and ''Read or Dream'', a manga illustrated by Ran Ayanaga set in the same universe as ''Read or Die.'' A light novel (, Hepburn: ''raito noberu'') is a style of young adult novel primarily targeting high school and middle school students. The term "light novel" is a ''wasei-eigo'', or a Japanese term formed from words in the English language. Light novels are often called or, in English, LN. Read Or Dream
''Read or Dream'' is a manga written by Hideyuki Kurata and drawn by Ran Ayanaga. It was published in Japan in four trade paperback volumes by Shueisha in 2002. The full title is ''R.O.D - Read or Dream - We are Paper Sisters Detective Company.'' ''Read or Dream'' was translated into English and distributed in North America by Viz Media from 2006. The "Paper Sisters Detective Company" consists of three young women who live in Hong Kong: Anita King, Michelle Cheung and Maggie Mui (they are not blood relations, but treat each other like sisters). Maggie, Michelle, and Anita are papermasters, meaning they can telekinetically manipulate paper to do anything they want, such as creating bulletproof shields and razor sharp swords. Their detective agency, which specializes in finding lost books (though they are often asked to find missing pets and do bodyguard duty as well), serves as the source of most of their adventures. Read Or Die (OVA)
''Read or Die'' is an OVA based on the manga of the same name by Hideyuki Kurata. It was created by Studio Deen in early 2001 and distributed outside Japan by Manga Entertainment in 2003. The series, directed by Koji Masunari, features the main characters of the original manga such as Yomiko Readman and Joker. It is a continuation of the manga storyline, taking place a few years after the events of the manga. Story The first episode begins with a cold open, set in Washington DC, where the White House has been evacuated. The samurai Gennai Hiraga appears on top of the White House and annihilates it using a mysterious power. Later in the episode, it is revealed that the US Library of Congress has been attacked, although this is not actually shown. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, Yomiko Readman gets her hands on an ultra-rare German first edition book, "die Unsterbliche Liebe" (or "The Undying Love"). Yomiko Readman
, also known as "The Paper," is the protagonist in the Japanese novel series ''Read or Die'' and its manga and original video animation (OVA) spin-offs. She is also a major player (but not the protagonist) in the sequel, ''R.O.D the TV''. She also makes a brief cameo appearance in Read or Dream. She is a papermaster, a person with the ability to bend paper material to her will, making it bulletproof and durable enough to use as a weapon, among other, more creative applications. Etymology ''Yomi'' (読) in her first name means ''reading'' in Japanese, while ''-ko'' (子) (literally 'child') is a common suffix in Japanese female names, so her first name means ''Reading-woman''. Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod (née Zelle; 7 August 187615 October 1917), better known by the stage name Mata Hari (), was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War I.
